Installing Windows 11 22H2 Enterprise without a Microsoft enterprise account

I am installing Windows 11 22H2 Enterprise on a notebook.

During its installation, this forces me to insert a Microsoft enterprise account. How come?

Where did I go wrong?

In other words, how do I install this edition without a Microsoft enterprise account?

Enterprise editions are for corporate use under the terms of a corporate agreement with MS.

How do you plan on activating it even if you do get a local account?

Any method outside a legitimate agreement would usually be piracy and against the rules of this forum to discuss.

To create a local user account, do this (this assumes that you are installing Windows Pro edition):

* If you have an Internet connection *

When you reach the screen where you have a choice to "Set up for personal use" or "Set up for work or school", select "Set up for work or school" and click on "Next".

On the next screen, select "Sign-in options", then "Domain join instead". Don't worry, we are not joining a domain!

On the next screen, supply the local user name that you want to create and then continue through setup as normal.


* If you do NOT have an Internet connection *

When you reach the screen where Windows wants to connect you to a network to create a local user account, press SHIFT + F10 to open a command prompt, and then run "OOBE\BypassNRO". The system will reboot. After rebooting, you will start back up at the screen asking you to select the correct keyboard layout. When you get back to the "Let's connect you to a network" screen, you will have an option to select "I don't have internet". Choose that option. On the next screen, select "Continue with limited setup". Enter your local user account name, and then continue with setup as usual.

I haven't tested it in Windows 11 Enterprise, but if you are disconnected from the Internet (remove the cable before configuring Windows), you can press SHIFT+F10 to open a Command Prompt and then execute oobe\bypassnro. This will restart the computer but this time on Network page there should be the text "I don't have an internet connection". Click on that and confirm you want to proceed with "limited" features, so you can create a local account. Since I don't give details about activation, I hopefully should not be violating the Forum rules. ;-)

I'd have to look at the WIndows 11 Enterprise installer, I've not yet rolled out any Windows 11 enterprise clients. \

With that said, I'm not sure what you mean by an enterprise microsoft account. My assumption is that you are trying to do a local user rather than a standard microsoft acccount. Others have posted solutions with oobe \bypassnro. Usually I just put in a bogus email address and password and it says "oops something went wrong" and it drops me to a prompt to create a local user.

That used to be true - volume licences were once nearly impossible to get. Now they can be had from third party resellers at reasonable cost.

A volume MAK key is like $4-$10 for a single PC depending on the reseller. No need to to buy bulk to get an Enterprise/Education volume licence.

Legitimate third party resellers offer good customer service. When a MAK key I bought failed to activate, a replacement key provided succeeded. There are more volume licences than will ever be used and they can be resold through the retail channel. This especially matters if you want to licence Enterprise LTSC 2024.
