OS
Windows 11
  • Build this computer in 2016 using Intel and Windows 7
  • At some point I upgraded to Windows 10
  • In 2021 I swapped Intel for AMD
  • I did not do a fresh install of Windows 10
  • Recently I wanted to upgrade to Windows 11
  • I enabled TMP 2.0
  • I used mbr2gpt and after some troubleshooting I managed to switch my drive to GPT
  • Upgraded to Windows 11 successfully
  • However I cannot boot into my system if I enable Secure Boot Windows UEFI in my BIOS
  • I am met with two bluescreen issues:
    • 1: "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. 0xc000025"
    • 2: "The operating system couldn't be loaded... File: \windows\system32\DRIVERS\iaStorF.sys Error code: 0xc0000428"
  • If I choose "Other OS" in my motherboard Secure Boot settings I can boot into windows successfully
  • I have tried to rename and even disable "iaStorF.sys" but doing both will prompt me with a BSOD QR code error

I'm going to attempt to answer your post to the best of my abilities, so I might not get everything, unless you elaborate further.

a: Yes, the upgrade was on 07/24 (2 days ago)

b: I ran PC Health Check and it confirmed that my PC was eligible and met all the requirements

c: When I boot, I boot normally. I have CSM disabled (enabled on UEFI + Legacy works too) but I need to have "Other OS" checked in my BIOS (B550-F Gaming ASUS). If I have "Windows UEFI" checked, I will blue screen.

d: The computer boots and functions with zero difficulties (outside of one program which requires Windows Secure Boot UEFI enabled)

1: For whatever reason my minidump folder and Windows folder both do not create BSOD log files. I have attempted to troubleshoot this for hours and have yet to come up with a solution. I've tried all of the basics and nothing works.

2: I'm unsure why Windows failed fast startup

3: The 4 unexpected shutdown and restarts were likely the BSOD I was experiencing when I was attempting to troubleshoot Windows UEFI Secure Boot mode

4: The two failed startup repairs were once again, likely me attempting to troubleshoot after a BSOD

5: Unsure about WRE being disabled.

e: I have a "Windows.old" folder in my C: drive, if that's what you mean?

f: I don't think so?

g: Yes, my files are all backed up and cloned to an NVME drive using Macrium Reflect

h: When performing a mbr2gpt and messing with the bcd and diskpart ( using this video:
) I too noticed that my disk drives were different than what Windows displayed. iirc my C: drive showed up as "F:" in the cmd window

I will perform the steps and report back with another post

Hi,

The iaStorF.sys is an Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver used when you had an Intel CPU. Since now you have an AMD CPU you will need the chipset drivers from AMD and remove all drivers related to Intel.

You can make a backup of your system now and try a clean install to see if everything would work. Now you have remnants from when your PC was based on Intel CPU and this causes issues.

Good luck,
werty

  • Already aware that it's an intel driver from an Intel CPU (since I previously had Intel)
  • To attempt to work around the situation I did a fresh install of windows to another drive
  • This did solve this particular issue, but it also created a bunch of new ones: Such as not having my programs and applications needing to be reinstalled and needing to install scripts and customizing them which was a daunting task, so I decided to not go with the new, fresh install of Windows 11
  • I did install the latest chipset drivers and BIOS for my motherboard earlier

continue with 7 - 10.

Then for step #10 include these same images or share links.

7: Installed latest motherboard firmware

8: Installed latest chipset driver

9: Created a new restore point

10: I posted a thread (with responses)

- I could not enter Advanced Recovery Environment

- After multiple attempts I was finally able to see a list of boot options

- After selecting "Boot into Safe Mode" I was unable to boot into Safe Mode successfully as it threw me back into the same BSOD

Event Viewer: https://files.catbox.moe/pg6u9r.evtx

The most recent errors at 14:01:00 and onward are all around the same time I was attempting to enter WRE and safe mode

The event viewer logs confirmed BSOD.

When using WDV the tool must be turned off to be able to boot Windows or Windows can be restored.

One or more options are:

a) Create a recovery partition during the troubleshooting > keep it or delete after troubleshooting has completed

b) Create a Windows 11 Macrium backup image > restore an image after each BSOD

c) Create a bootable Windows 11 Media Creation Tool (MCT) (Windows 11 iso)

I've already attempted this and it does BSOD me on boot, every time.

I have managed to stop WDV by entering safe mode (after disabling Secure Boot) and using cmd.

Is there anything in particular you want me to do?

WDV BSOD has no method to select safe mode.

The computer must boot into safe mode to turn off the tool and return to Windows desktop.

Report what happens with hard boot (option #9).

For option #7:

Please find a flash drive that you can format (> or = 8 GB).

Once you have reliable recovery options the WDV tool can be started.

1) Make a new restore point

2) For customized test settings:

a) test all non-Microsoft drivers
b) test no Microsoft drivers
c) select the 3 customized tests in the TF tutorial

3) Plan to run WDV with various customized tests for approximately 48 hours.

4) If there is no immediate BSOD then open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

verifier /querysettings

Post a share link.

5) For any BSOD post a new V2 share link

Summary:

The WDV tool will be restarted multiple times during the 48hrs.

Each time the tool is restarted post a share link:

no immediate BSOD > verifier /querysettings

any BSOD > V2

I turned Windows UEFI Secure Boot on and attempted to boot into windows via safe mode through the MCT but it did not give me a safe mode option or any bootable options for that matter.

I did attempt to boot through the command: bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal

However I was met with a different error

"The requested system device cannot be identified"

I assigned all the partitions / volumes on my bootable drive with letters and reattempted and I still could not boot into safe mode

Turning off Windows UEFI Secure Boot once again enabled me to reenter Windows 11

Please keep secure boot off so that you can boot using the MCT > RE > command prompt > verifier /reset
