Is Macrium Reflect 8.1 Home still available to buy

I have 37GB on C:

It takes 1:39 to back up with default compression, and 2:13 to restore using Macrium's bootable media.

My C: drive is on a 2.5" SSD, and I back up to a Western Digital Black hard drive.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
The problem is potential lack of compatibility with Win 11 in the future, but the way Hasleo is rolling, they'll be a serious contender soon.
Reflect X is available as a portable (future crippling disabled) if you know where to look, but I'm probably not allowed to say that.:cool:

I got discharged today. The cataract on my right eye was removed without any hitches last week. But last night, the IOP reading for my left eye was in the stratosphere. 60+mmhp. My left eye starting throbbing around 9 pm and a couple of hours later, I had nausea.

Anyway, long story short. The doctor on duty drained some excess fluid from my left eye and the reading dropped to 10+.

My surgeon gave me extra medication this morning to keep the IOP on my left eye ini check. According to him, the cataract on my left eye was really hard and difficult break up, and that was the cause for the abnormally high IOP reading. I have an appointment with my ophthalmologist tomorrow and next week as a follow-up. All is well though.

Now coming back to the gist of this article, I managed to create and restore my OS using Macrium Reflect Free.
Sorry I forgot to time it but my biological clock told me both processes were pretty fast, definitely quicker than I had expected.

Welcome back, glad to hear the eyes have settled down now.

Using an external SSD would have helped speed up the process. Imaging and restoring is only as fast as the slowest link in the process, and that would be the external drive in your case.

For future reference, Reflect recorded the time in took to make the image at the end of it's log file, which you would have found in Reflect's 'Logs' tab. Of course, as this would have been written after the image completed, then it won't exist in your restored image.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

Yes, what Bree said - external is still limited to USB 3 speeds but with an NVMe in something like an SSK adapter I find they go pretty fast. That's what I use for offsite.

Reflect is fine and dependable. There are much worse!

I had cataract surgery done on both eyes, Diabetes almost 30 years now and Glaucoma. I have to read very carefully a slow or I miss a lot on these forums and everywhere for that matter. Wish I could go back about 40 years! :LOL:

Hope you have quick improvement. I have to put drops in every night for the Glaucoma to keep the pressures down. Hang in there! :-)

Backing up to a internal drive may be fast but it's far from being the safest place to keep backup images.

With the new m.2 drive at this time, takes 57 seconds to backup 57gb I'm sure that will increase as time goes on though!

I need to invest in an External SSD sometime.

Currently i backup to WD My Book 8TB, and Secondary Backup drive--Seagate SMR 8tB in Enclosure.

Don't think my 3 Drives would fit on a 1TB or 2TB External SSD as far as i know. Plus i backup Gaming Laptop & 3rd HouseHold PC to the Same drive.

Macrium Reflect X working well so far

didn't wanna take the chance of 8.1 no longer working at some point, so while i had the funds--went for it.

It's feasible to integrate USB 3.1/3.2 driver according to SIW2's upgrade.

I have been using the upgrade MR version. It works for anywhere there are USB 3.1/3.2 ports but lack of the driver.

I will add, I've heard of some having problems on Windows 11 with Reflect X, but no problems the free version. ;-)

So far I've only had one problem with Macrium Reflect X. Yesterday I had the known bug of having to re-enter key. My guess is it was caused by my tuning on Cloudflare Warp or by the latest Windows Canary build update.
