I just checked my Windows 10 machine, 19044.2075.
16 Thousand tmp Folders in System32\config\,,,
It's not an W11only problem?

This is how I take care of mine:

Get-ChildItem -Path "C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\" -Include tw*.tmp -Recurse -Directory | Remove-Item

You have to run with elevated privileges. That's just one line in a larger script that gets rid of most of the temp files created throughout my system.

Seems System Restore on the C:\ drive was also turned back ON.
I just checked my desktop and it was turned on. I wouldn't have a problem with it being on if it actually worked. When I did use it I had more failures then success. I'll stick with making my own backup images.

Yeah seems so, I just wondering if I need to go back and reverse all changes I made in attempt to stop the creation of these empty folders

Windows creates a lot of garbage over the years...my userprofile is about 100GB right now. Half of it is data I actually need while the rest is garbage that can't be automatically cleaned up.

This has been an issue for as long as I've used Windows.

We once had a user who was looking around his computer and found a whole folder of stuff he thought was garbage. So he deleted his operating system. That was amusing. :eyeroll:

What triggers this? I don't have the folders.
My 22H2 is old upgraded from (maybe Vista)/ 7/8/8.1/10/11.
I would like to do a clean install but I would lose recording studio plug-ins that are no longer available.

Windows creates a lot of garbage over the years...my userprofile is about 100GB right now. Half of it is data I actually need while the rest is garbage that can't be automatically cleaned up.

This has been an issue for as long as I've used Windows.
A nice clean install neatens that right up! It's yet another reason I do a couple of them every year. And yes, I know you really shouldn't have to clean up after Microsoft! :plead:

Agree a fresh install is always the better option, always amazed how much crap is left behind, from general Windows usage. The only hassle is reinstalling all software, and if you are a gamer losing all the game files under user folders is not ideal
