Okay. I've caught my breath. If I were standing at ASUS headquarters right now, I'd bet everyone there $1000 that what I'm about to say is true. Not a soul would believe me, they'd all bet, and I'd have about half a million dollars.

I've purchase a replacement. Identical unit. Today I didn't personalized the computer so much but simply let it play YouTube for hours on end. Steady as a rock. Finally convinced this was a good one, I installed Chrome --

-- and Chrome is what is killing the OLED screens. I know this because I noted it the last time on the previous thread. It's up in this thread somewhere. Ah! There it is --

View attachment 15203

I can't even begin to explain how that is possible, unless I'm downloading from the wrong site. Sorry for the drama but I'm just trying to buy a new laptop.

Maybe it's just some default setting in Chrome that's causing the issue. Hardware acceleration?

Or maybe it's EDGE, reacting to you installing Chrome, or (worst case), "altering" the Chrome download ?

In a TV, that complaint would say TCON board to me

https://www.analogix.com/en/news_media/news/lcd-timing-controllers-–-technology-and-features

Unsure whether that is a separate board on a Laptop. I have witnessed the blind closing phenomenon personally on a TV. In my long experience repairing TVs I will say, problems generally get worse, not better. I'd be taking advantage of any opportunity to exchange the Laptop peronally

Not ignoring you, A Guy. I'll see if THIS is the issue. I've got until end of January to return. (Nothing like Xmas Black Friday at Amazon.)

I also noticed this morning an Intel Display update slamming in.

I think I've read somewhere else (Reddit maybe?) about Chrome causing issues with Oled. Hope you get it sorted.

I would not even bother with all the troubleshooting. If my laptop behaved this way I would just return it and get another model. "Chrome causing issues with OLED" sounds wrong to me, why would a browser software even know of the physical type of the panel? In any case, if I am buying a laptop, I'm buying a product and it better works as advertised. It's not a DIY kit.

As for the Amazon reviews, I would not put too much worth in them. The problem is, Amazon frequently "bundles" different products together. While this works well for socks (since the color or size do not change anything), it's just plain wrong for computer parts and computers. When I bought my motherboard a year ago, several different models were listed as "styles" under one "product", and hence the reviews were for all different motherboards. Similarly, I tried the latest model of my headphones and they are listing this as a "style" together with the previous model. So before the headphones were even available, there were 8000+ reviews of them

Isn't that annoying? And it doesn't help anyone. Beelink had 4 different models on one page -- rendering most reviews irrelevant.

The issue was easily resolved. And has proven completely fixed.

It's completely possible for Chrome, or any other browser to not play right with Hardware acceleration enabled. From my research, it seems to happen more often with integrated graphics chips and particularly with Intel Graphics.
