Kaspersky Total Background Scan?

How do i do one manually? Just did full scan and vulnerability scan. How i manually do a background scan?

Most 3rd party antivirus allow you to right click a drive, partition, folder... etc., and choose... scan.


This would be a "manual" Bitdefender scan, of the C: drive.

Talking about kaspersky total background scan. There is no option to just background scan only on the options.



Can full scan or quick scan but background scan is automatic.

A scan is a scan.
Most marketing departments attach fancy names to things to sell more product.

There's really only two kinds of scan. A quick scan and a full scan.
A quick scan, scans only the areas most likely to be infected.
A full scan scans... everything.

There will be various settings in Kaspersky, allowing you to decide what you want scanned in a full scan.

A "manual scan" is a scan performed through either the right click menu of say... a drive, or there will be a way to scan only the C: drive or only a folder like... Program Files or whatever.

ALL antivirus programs work this way.
Marketing departments, will come up with interesting names for things, but all AVs work like this.


For example... here is another way to make manual scans with Bitdefender... I can "create" a custom scan, or (via the 3 dots) I can "edit" the Quick scan or the System scan.
And... as I showed you before, I can also use the right click menu.







What you need to do is to go through the various "pages" in your antivirus, till you find how to adjust the various scans.

This may also help you. ALL antivirus companies, have some sort of documentation or knowledge base, which will help you learn how to operate the program...




Kaspersky even has a forum to help you...

There is also vulnerability scan as well which i done. You press on that. This says some things aren't scanned fully so do the vulnerability scan.



But background scan seems random, there isn't a button to start it.

I never run vulnerability scans. They are a good idea sort of, but they also cause problems.
They may quarantine an older program for example... because it's old, Kaspersky assumes it's vulnerable.
Vulnerability scans can only make decisions depending on how they are programmed.

Old and maybe vulnerable programs, for example, should just be blocked from the internet with your firewall.
Like I use Paintshop Pro 7.04, which came out in 2001. It's definitely a vulnerable program.
Instead of letting Bitdefender quarantine or remove the program, I just make sure Paintshop Pro has no internet access, via the firewall.
That way, I can still use the program, and because it's blocked... it's being vulnerable is no longer the danger it was.


You really should be asking these questions on the Kaspersky forum. Everyone on there is using Kaspersky.
On here... there might be 2 or 3 or 10 people using Kaspersky, so you won't get as many or as accurate... answers.

Okay so full scan won't catch everything? When you also do vulnerability scan, it does?


What about the background scan then?


Asked on kaspersky and what they said doesn't seem to work. Saw another link for how to but
it tells you to click on things that aren't there.

A full scan will catch everything.
A vulnerability scan is pretty useless.

What about a background scan?

A vulnerability scan "might" find other things. But they're NOT infections.
They are programs, etc., that MIGHT be vulnerable.
I haven't seen a vulnerability scan by any program, predict a vulnerability that actually DID cause problems... ever.

practically useless - after 6 years of loyal service Kaspersky 100% is not up to par or speed with definitions for day-0s and after their most recent attempts at trying to remote check / clear up systems on our end they failed in every way shape and form, EPDS was what saved us while kaspersky let it all slide by and then reaffirmed infected machines were ok.

When you post identical questions in both TenForums & ElevenForum, please post links to the equivalent thread to avoid other people wasting their time.

I think when manufacturers talk about a background scan, they're referring to automatic scanning when your computer is idle for a period of time. ie they scan in the background. There will be a setting where you can put in a schedule for this - either a set time of day or "whenever the computer has been idle for 30 minutes" or whatever.

WD can run "Manual scans" at will -- choose just what sort of scan you need from the WD security control panel. AS for continuous scanning / protection WD has real time protection built in (assuming you haven't turned it off or disabled WD).

On HOME computers running W11 (or even W10) these days I'd suggest WD is fine --no need for anything else.

BTW WD is also good at scanning a REMOTE computer for infections etc -- simply in the WD panel on the computer you are logged on to select the scan option and choose the drive / folder etc on the remote computer.

My preference anyway is to run things like Anti Virus software when checking for malware etc is to run the program from the REMOTE computer against the appropriate drives / folder to the other machine. That way if malware etc has interfered with the working of WD on an infected machine the remote computer will detect it.
