UPDATE 9/9: KB5005642 Windows 11 Insider Preview Beta Build 22000.184 - Sept. 9

UPDATE 7:10PM PDT: Recently, Windows Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels began reporting that Start and Taskbar were unresponsive and Settings and other areas of the OS wouldn’t load. We quickly discovered an issue with a server-side deployment that went out to Insiders and canceled that deployment. If you were impacted by this issue, you can use the following steps to get back into a working state on your PC.
  • Step 1: Use CTRL-ALT-DEL and choose to open Task Manager.
  • Step 2: Choose “More details” at the bottom of Task Manager to expand Task Manager.
  • Step 3: Go to “File” and choose “Run new task”.
  • Step 4: Type “cmd” in the “Open” field.
  • Step 5: Paste the following: reg delete HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\IrisService /f && shutdown -r -t 0
  • Step 6: Hit enter, and then your PC should reboot. After rebooting, everything should be back to normal.

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22000.176 to the Beta Channel!

We are also making Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22000.176 available to commercial PCs in the Release Preview Channel. Please see this blog post for all the details.

Changes and Improvements

  • People want to get closer to the things they love, faster. This is why commonly used experiences like Search, Task View, Widgets and Chat are pinned to the Taskbar in Windows 11. To manage which of these icons are pinned to the Taskbar in one place, simply right-click on the Taskbar and select “Taskbar settings” to open the Taskbar Settings page and choose which system icon to hide. If you hid any of these system icons previously and want to unhide them – you can do this via the Taskbar Settings page.
Simply right-click on the Taskbar and choose “Taskbar settings” to choose which system icons appear.
Simply right-click on the Taskbar and choose “Taskbar settings” to choose which system icons appear.

Fixes

[General]
  • We fixed an issue with paired Bluetooth LE devices that was causing an increase in Bluetooth reliability issues and bugchecks after resume from hibernate or when Bluetooth was turned off.
  • We mitigated an issue that was resulting some users hitting in an unexpected error when trying to take pictures with certain USB cameras.
  • When setting up Windows Hello in OOBE, we’ve added a new link to learn more about Windows Hello.
[Chat from Microsoft Teams]
  • Arabic and Hebrew languages will now allow changing Teams Settings.
  • We fixed the issue where if you were making an outgoing call, there was no ring tone, but the user interface would show that the call is getting connected.
[Microsoft Store]

The following issues were fixed in the most recent Store updates:
  • We fixed the issue where the install button might not be functional in limited scenarios.
  • We also fixed an issue where rating and reviews were not available for some apps.

Known issues

[General]
  • We’re investigating reports from Insiders in the Beta Channel where after upgrading to Windows 11, they are not seeing the new Taskbar and the Start menu doesn’t work. To workaround this if you are impacted, please try going to Windows Update > Update history, uninstalling the latest cumulative update for Windows, and the reinstall it by checking for updates.
  • We’re working on a fix for an issue that is causing some Surface Pro X devices to bug check with a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR.
[Start]
  • In some cases, you might be unable to enter text when using Search from Start or the Taskbar. If you experience the issue, press WIN + R on the keyboard to launch the Run dialog box, then close it.
  • System and Windows Terminal is missing when right-clicking on the Start button (WIN + X).
[Taskbar]
  • The Taskbar will sometimes flicker when switching input methods.
[Search]
  • After clicking the Search icon on the Taskbar, the Search panel may not open. If this occurs, restart the “Windows Explorer” process, and open the search panel again.
  • Search panel might appear as black and not display any content below the search box.
[Widgets]
  • The widgets board may appear empty. To work around the issue, you can sign out and then sign back in again.
  • Widgets may be displayed in the wrong size on external monitors. If you encounter this, you can launch the widgets via touch or WIN + W shortcut on your actual PC display first and then launch on your secondary monitors.
[Microsoft Store]
  • We continue to work to improve search relevance in the Store.
[Windows Sandbox]
  • Within Windows Sandbox, the language input switcher does not launch after clicking the switcher icon on the Taskbar. As a workaround, users can switch their input language via any of the following hardware keyboard shortcuts: Alt + Shift, Ctrl + Shift, or Win + Space (the third option is available only if Sandbox is full-screened).
  • Within Windows Sandbox, the IME context menu does not launch after clicking the IME icon in the Taskbar. As workarounds, users can access the functionalities of the IME context menu with either of following methods:
    • Accessing the IME settings via Settings > Time & language > Language & region > <each IME language> (e.g. Japanese) three dots > Language options > <each IME> (e.g. Microsoft IME) three dots > Keyboard options.
      • Optionally, you may also enable the IME toolbar, an alternative UI to quickly invoke specific IME functions. Continuing from above, navigate to Keyboard options > Appearance > Use IME toolbar.
    • Using the unique set of hardware keyboard shortcuts associated with each IME-supported language. (See: Japanese IME Shortcuts, Traditional Chinese IME Shortcuts).
[Localization]
  • There is an issue where some Insiders may be some missing translations from their user experience for a small subset of languages running the latest Insider Preview builds. To confirm if you have been impacted, please visit this Answers forum post and follow the steps for remediation.

Microsoft Store

We are rolling out an update for Store (version 22108.1401.11.0) to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel that includes the following improvements:

I am going to build my own machine with parts from various vendors while keeping my PC case only. :scream: I then will insert my SSD with version .176 on it and see how it goes. 1. Will it run? 2. Will it activate? Tx Ben
I presume that your current Windows install is activated and is shown in your Microsoft Account.

IMO it's highly unlikely that the existing activation status would be auto-recognised by the Microsoft Servers and retained after such a drastic change of hardware (the Microsoft Servers won't recognise the 'old' PC Case ).

What you are basically performing is heart transplant of your SSD into a new body so your first challenge when waking the SSD from it's medically induced coma will be getting the existing installed OS to recognise all the newly attached hardware and install the required drivers. Activation won't be your immediate concern!

As far as the existing Activation goes, on the assumption that activation won't be automatically recognised, you should see an option/link in the Activation Settings Screen which reads something like "I've recently changed my hardware". Clicking on that link should take you to the Microsoft Account Window which will display all of your currently registered devices and this should allow you to select which of those devices was the one previously activated by whatever licence you used. With luck and a following wind, selecting that old device and following any further prompts may allow activation to be 'auto-transferred' to your new device. You should know immediately if it's is successful or not.

No Guarantees of course, but it might save you the begging phone call to Microsoft's Help Desk. And please don't forget the system backups of your current installation. SSDs are not immortal.

I did this once with a new setup, putting an SSD that contained an activated Windows 10, into a different motherboard.
Windows was activated with a digital license linked to my Microsoft account !

Depends whether it's an OEM licence or a Retail licence. The latter should work, but not the former. Both my Windows 11 machines are using Windows 7 Retail licences purchased in 2009 which are still valid even after completely changing the hardware on each machine.

I believe it was a retail license, this was when Microsoft offered windows 8 license-update for unlicensed Windows 7, which I had. Subsequently updated to Win 8.1, and later Win 10.
But I may not be eligible for win 11, because of the CPU !😒

When I checked my speed back on June 24th my speed was 911.50 Mbps up. Now I'm getting just over 123 Mbps. When I use this program do I just select the Optimal setting or do I need to make other chances? The program say's I can use an MTU up to 1500.
I just used the command prompt as admin and ran (netsh interface ipv4 show subinterface) and the MTU is set to 1500. When I checked the internet speed with the Xfinity app on my phone the speed was 949.4 Mbps. It has to be a setting on my computer.

Yeah definitely something fishy going on there. I get 420-430Mbps on my 400Mbps connection no matter which device, connection type to router and OS I test on.

I forgot to mention that at the time my desktop was on the Dev build. Now it's on the Beta build. I just ran the Xfinity speed test on my laptop that is on the Dev build and my speed was 728.6 Mbps.

Not sure I want to run the Dev build on my main system - the internet speeds jumped after I reset the config with that app, but it dropped again, getting 130/120 now on this system, and still 940/120 on others - I have the Dev build on a laptop and 3 VMs, and the speed on those is around the 940/120 as well.

Has to be a driver issue with Windows 11 - just going to suck it up and hope to see improvements with the next Beta release, since I need this computer for work, and the speeds I'm getting are more than good enough for what I need there (and other than the internet speeds being slower than expected, the system is just as stable as it was on Win 10).

It has to be something in Windows 11 Beta. When my desktop was running the Dev build I was getting over 900 Mbps. The speed is fast enough for my needs but I'm paying for 800 Mbps so I would like to get something in that area.

My media/server uses the most bandwidth anyways, and as long as it has full speed, I'm happy

I rarely use much bandwidth on this system - between work, web browsing, and watching youtube, I don't think I ever use over 100mbps on here - If I need to download a large file, I do it on the server in a shared folder.

one thing it might slow down is downloading windows version updates - hopefully the next download of that will resolve this issue!

FWIW KB5006050 installed fine for me with no problems, and I got the new-look Microsoft Store app too when I checked for updates there.
I'm not an insider, and my machine is supposedly completely incompatible.
Strangely, the linked Microsoft account says I'm on Windows 10 Pro, although the displayed build number is correct!

I'm not an Insider, one of my two W11 machines is completely incompatible, and I don't even use a Microsoft account. Despite all that I'm completely up to date and have the new Store too.

And yes, the Store also says I'm on Windows 10 Pro. :D

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

It probaly says it's version 2009 as well.
It seems Microsft's various departments use outdated/ obsolete registry entries for their info.
