Insider KB5016700 Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 22621.450 and 22622.450 - Aug. 2

  • Staff
UPDATE 8/10:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.450 and Build 22622.450 (KB5016700) to the Beta Channel. In addition to the handful of fixes and improvements noted below, this update includes improvements to how we apply updates on top of each other as well.
  • Build 22622.450 = New features rolling out.
  • Build 22621.450 = New features off by default.
As a reminder, Insiders who landed in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can check for updates and choose to install the update that will have features rolling out (Build 22622.xxx).

Fixes included for BOTH Build 22621.450 & Build 22622.450

This update includes the following improvements:
  • New! We enhanced Microsoft Defender for Endpoint’s ability to identify and intercept ransomware and advanced attacks.
  • New! We compressed a file regardless of its size if you have configured Server Message Block (SMB) Compression.
  • New! We improved storage replication that occurs over low bandwidth or congested wide area networks (WAN).
  • We fixed an issue that causes Windows to display tablet mode features for some devices that do not have touchscreens.
  • We fixed an issue that causes some application windows to have blank sections in the Task View preview.
  • We fixed an issue that occurs for some of you when you copy files from network drives. The error code is 0x80070026.
  • We fixed a token leak issue in the LsapGetClientInfoEx
  • We fixed an issue that, in certain cases, causes sihost.exe to use a high amount of the CPU.
  • We fixed an issue that causes Microsoft Edge to stop responding when you use IE mode. This issue also prevents you from interacting with a dialog.

Known issues

[General]

  • There is an issue in the recent Beta Channel updates that is causing the Photos app to crash, and a fix will be rolling out soon via a Photos app update via the Store.
  • We’re investigating reports that SQL Server Management Studio is failing to launch for some Insiders.
  • [NEW] We’re looking into reports that audio stopped working for some Insiders after upgrading to Build 22622.440.

[File Explorer]

  • The left-half of the File Explorer title bar may not be draggable via mouse or touch.
  • The up arrow is misaligned in File Explorer tabs. This will be fixed in a future update.

About the Beta Channel

The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post that outlines the ways we’ll try things out with Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels.

I've put in two bug reports in the HUB about the file explorer white screens in dark mode. Neither show up! Don't know what Microsoft is doing with them. Very sorry service to see this isn't even mentioned in these notes! Just closing and reopening the window fixes it, but it's still jarring and annoying.
Walt, if you post a link to your feedback, I'll upvote it. The white screen in dark mode is a solid PITA!

How do you guys get this to work -- even the iso from UUPDUMP still shows as 22621_1_professional... and if you run the setup.exe file with update you still only get to build 22621.232

I can't do it from Windows insider because I already have that set up for the 25xxx insider preview builds.

So how do I get this wretched system to update.

Cheers

Check your Insider Settings Status on that same WU page. Does it say you're up to date, or there is another Update available? With a big yellow triangle.

Walt, if you post a link to your feedback, I'll upvote it. The white screen in dark mode is a solid PITA!
Not quite the same problem as my FE just flashes white when opening a new Tab so reported that, It seems that Microsoft are aware and are working on it and we need to be patient,

I think I found Walts so upvoted that as well, lot of people have upvoted it, can't see anyway to link to the individual feedbacks.

I've switched my FE to dark this morning after applying the Beta Update. I have closed it/opened it/rebooted and opened it but yet to experience the "white flash" behaviour.

Correction: there is the briefest "white flash" on opening but quite noticeable on every new tab.

Hey @Brink

Too many builds, and it is hard to keep track. It would be nice if you add a line on top of every new thread with a link of the previous build of the same ring. So it will be easy to read the changes and go back to previous builds in the same ring!

Thanks in advance!

Check your Insider Settings Status on that same WU page. Does it say you're up to date, or there is another Update available? With a big yellow triangle.
Hi there
Thanks for the info

It says that and then when I go to Windows update it just says Up to date.

I'm biting the bullet and installing directly from scratch and re-setting Insider level and see what happens.

If I do it as a VM nothing wasted if it doesn't work. i don't have too many apps on windows to re-install anyway - Office/2021 LTSC, Photoshop, SAP GUI, HediSQL, Apache, MariaDB are about the only ones I need to bother with -- not a real difficult problem.

Actually very simple doing it this way with vhdx files even in VM's - Attach . create a vhdx file from within a VM and install windows on it via dism - then simply update the booty loader on the "base" efi partition.

I'll then reset insider and see what come out.

Cheers

Epic fail with this build on new install

Can't get rid of "Need a new app message" when trying to open the security dashboard.

I've given up on this build -- seems it doesn't want to run on ANY of my machines, real or VM.

Cheers

I get this :

I think this is what stopped me installing from New on a couple of previous builds.

A few suggestions on Google but none of them worked for me.

Screenshot_20220803_094637.png

I'll have one more "Go" at this

I'm going to restore a Working W10 image -- then update that via WU to W11 and see if that works. Bit of a Hideous "Long cut" to poodlefake the thing to work though. Lucky I've got some spare time for this nonsense tofday.

Definitely something wrong with this -- whatever else the OS does security should ALWAYS work properly !!! even on "Beta" versions especially on "Bog standard hardware".

Cheers

But it's not MY APP -- It's a G-da-n!!! Microsoft app -- Windows defender which isn't an Installable app. IT'S PART OF THE OS. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ANY I.T. I don't normally get mad or irritated but these suggestions are TOTALLY BONKERS. !!!!!

Hello Jen, :-)

I usually have a link to the update at the top in the old previous one, but I'm not sure if having a link to the old in the new wouldn't cause confusion.

If you like, the Microsoft Blog link below lists all Windows Insider updates to help.
