Insider KB5016700 Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 22621.450 and 22622.450 - Aug. 2

  • Staff
UPDATE 8/10:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.450 and Build 22622.450 (KB5016700) to the Beta Channel. In addition to the handful of fixes and improvements noted below, this update includes improvements to how we apply updates on top of each other as well.
  • Build 22622.450 = New features rolling out.
  • Build 22621.450 = New features off by default.
As a reminder, Insiders who landed in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can check for updates and choose to install the update that will have features rolling out (Build 22622.xxx).

Fixes included for BOTH Build 22621.450 & Build 22622.450

This update includes the following improvements:
  • New! We enhanced Microsoft Defender for Endpoint’s ability to identify and intercept ransomware and advanced attacks.
  • New! We compressed a file regardless of its size if you have configured Server Message Block (SMB) Compression.
  • New! We improved storage replication that occurs over low bandwidth or congested wide area networks (WAN).
  • We fixed an issue that causes Windows to display tablet mode features for some devices that do not have touchscreens.
  • We fixed an issue that causes some application windows to have blank sections in the Task View preview.
  • We fixed an issue that occurs for some of you when you copy files from network drives. The error code is 0x80070026.
  • We fixed a token leak issue in the LsapGetClientInfoEx
  • We fixed an issue that, in certain cases, causes sihost.exe to use a high amount of the CPU.
  • We fixed an issue that causes Microsoft Edge to stop responding when you use IE mode. This issue also prevents you from interacting with a dialog.

Known issues

[General]

  • There is an issue in the recent Beta Channel updates that is causing the Photos app to crash, and a fix will be rolling out soon via a Photos app update via the Store.
  • We’re investigating reports that SQL Server Management Studio is failing to launch for some Insiders.
  • [NEW] We’re looking into reports that audio stopped working for some Insiders after upgrading to Build 22622.440.

[File Explorer]

  • The left-half of the File Explorer title bar may not be draggable via mouse or touch.
  • The up arrow is misaligned in File Explorer tabs. This will be fixed in a future update.

About the Beta Channel

The Beta Channel will be the place we preview experiences that are closer to what we will ship to our general customers. Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first. However, this does not mean every feature we try out in the Beta Channel will ship. We encourage Insiders to read this blog post that outlines the ways we’ll try things out with Insiders in both the Dev and Beta Channels.

But it's not MY APP -- It's a G-da-n!!! Microsoft app -- Windows defender which isn't an Installable app. IT'S PART OF THE OS. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ANY I.T. I don't normally get mad or irritated but these suggestions are TOTALLY BONKERS. !!!!!

I'll have one more "Go" at this

I'm going to restore a Working W10 image -- then update that via WU to W11 and see if that works. Bit of a Hideous "Long cut" to poodlefake the thing to work though. Lucky I've got some spare time for this nonsense tofday.

Definitely something wrong with this -- whatever else the OS does security should ALWAYS work properly !!! even on "Beta" versions especially on "Bog standard hardware".

Hi,
That appears to be a known issue, when you use an installation ISO that is missing all the basic Windows Apps.
The script to download and create the ISO has been changed quite some time ago for Ni Builds and it now downloads all the required Apps and add those Apps when it Builds the install.wim.
I have done several installs with ISO created from uup-dump.net and none have that problem anymore. All the basic Windows Apps are present and working correctly.

I wish MS would update their official ISOs more often, like every time there's a new update. It can't be that hard to build a new ISO every 3-4 weeks

Epic fail with this build on new install

Can't get rid of "Need a new app message" when trying to open the security dashboard.

I've given up on this build -- seems it doesn't want to run on ANY of my machines, real or VM.

Cheers

The reason I suggested looking for that yellow triangle and the message was I had it, and found an easy fix. I lost the link to the article, but it's easy. Go to this key in registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability

Export and save it somewhere, then delete it and it's sub-data
Reboot.
Go to WU and you will see the option to Start Insider. Set your level (Beta) and reboot.
You should get the new build.

Hope I haven't left out any teeny step, but you'll see it all, you done it before. :-)

I joined the Preview channel to get 22H2 (22621), and after installing it, I chose to leave the Insider program in order to stop getting Insider builds once the official version launches publicly. Once I clicked on "Leave Insider Program," I was put into the Beta channel for some reason, and received the 22622.450 build via Windows Update.

What's the deal?

I belive it stated that you would continue to get updates until the next major release was public. Meanwhile you would continue to get updates to keep you "safe".

Hey guys, are the blank icons bug in the Recommended section of the Start Menu fixed yet? I'm using the stable 22000.795 build and the bug has been here for a long while now.

Update: MS responded through the Feedback app saying this has been fixed in build 22504 but this was released in November 2021. Are the fixes from that old build not implemented yet in the stable builds?

Hi folks, I'm on build 22621.232 and I don't understand how can I switch to 22622.450. Any help please?
22621.232 was for Release Preview channel, 22622.450 is for Beta channel.
Which insider channel are you in?

is it me or has Windows Explorer become increasingly unstable? Crashes a lot, especially when shifting between desktops.

Hmm, maybe it's now incompatible with the version of Start11 I have installed... bother.

No Explorer.exe, basically the overall UI one uses to launch and view all applications and desktops. It’s been crashing on me for the last two beta builds. You'd know if it was happening to you if the taskbar kept disappearing and reloading. 😄

It's likely a StarDock Start11 problem.
