Win Update KB5052093 Windows 11 Cumulative Update Preview build 26100.3323 (24H2) - Feb. 25

UPDATE 3/11:

 Microsoft Support:

February 25, 2025 - KB5052093 (OS Build 26100.3323) Preview

For information about Windows update terminology, see the article about the types of Windows updates and the monthly quality update types. For an overview of Windows 11, version 24H2, see its update history page.

Note Follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Highlights

Gradual rollout

These might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually.
  • [Task Manager] Fixed: It might identify an HDD as an SSD.
  • [Taskbar] New! You can now share files directly from a jump list on the taskbar. Jump lists appear when you right-click an app that has a jump list

  • [Windows Spotlight]
    • New! There’s a quick and easy way to find out more information about a background image. Simply hover over the image or click the “Learn about this picture” icon.
    • New! This update makes Windows Spotlight easier to find. You’ll notice changes to the icon color and background. Also, the icon will show at the lower right area on your desktop.

  • [Lock screen] New! This update makes it easier to learn more about the image on your lock screen when you select the “Like” button.
  • [Narrator] New! There are new functions for Narrator scan mode. Skip past links (n) allows you to go to the text after a link. Use the comma (,) to jump to the start of an item (large table, long list, or another item.) Use the period (.) to jump to the end of an item. This is most helpful when you read long emails, news articles, and wiki pages. Jump to lists (l) allows you to quickly access a list on a web page or in a document. To use these new functions, turn on Narrator first (Windows logo key + Ctrl + Enter). Then turn scan mode on by pressing Caps lock + Spacebar. Note that scan mode is on by default on most web pages (like news articles, wiki page, and so on).

  • [Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers] New! Some of you might see a new referral card for a PC Game Pass subscription on the Settings home page. With it, you can invite friends and family to try a PC Game Pass for free. If you qualify, the card only appears when you sign in to your PC using your Microsoft account.

  • [File Explorer]
    • New! You can now snooze or turn off the “Start backup” reminder in the File Explorer address bar. This only applies if you are not already backing up your files and folder. To view this new option, right-click Start backup.

    • Fixed: Improves performance when it loads folders that have a large number of media files.
    • Fixed: When you enter a URL in the address bar, it might not go to the location.
    • Fixed: The address bar overlaps files when you use the F11 full-screen mode.
    • Fixed: The context menu opens slowly when you right-click cloud files.
    • Thumbnails for cloud files display more consistently in search results.
  • [HTML Help Viewer] New! This update adds text scaling support.
  • [Start menu] Fixed: The colors are wrong when you open the account manager flyout menu. This occurs when you use a mixed dark and light custom mode in Settings > Personalization > Colors.
  • [Scanners] Fixed: Apps might not recognize a scanner is available when it is connected.

How do you use these, tried to make reg files, but they refuse to import

You need TrustedInstaller permission to access this registry path *HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\0*.

You can use third-party tools to obtain Ti permissions.

Almost every time I get a KB update (like this one) I have feeling I should do a scan? and, more than 50% of the time. Well I posted a pic...any comments?
I almost never run SFC. I think I may run it once every 6 months, if even that. From what I recall, I too would get some reports of something being corrupted but when I examined the logs, it was always something inconsequential. I can't recall off the top of my head what it was, but it was something silly like logs or something that would be subject to change.

Maybe I'll try running it again once a week or so, especially through a few updates just to see what I get and I can report back here then.

But my personal feeling, and this is only my own opinion, is that everything is working fine, there is simply no point in running this all the time.

99% of the time, things just work so well for me that I can spend my time playing with Windows stuff that really interests me and not having to deal with fixing things.

You may notice that a lot of my posts are about stuff where I go way off in the weeds and that's possible because by and large Windows just works for me.

But, you have got my curiosity going here, so I'll play with this and see if I find anything interesting.

My point for using sfc is to be sure everything is as fine as possible after every update because that's when most C-ups happen. That's time when system is vulnerable, bunches of system files and registry entries are changed, services stopped and restarted, some "live" some during restart. Complications galore. At no other time so many changes at once. After I'm satisfied with results, I DISM check and cleanup commands and finally disk cleanup when I'm sure I'm not going to be forced to revert.
Only after those things I can trust system.

I hear you! Maybe I've become complacent because stuff just usually works for me, unless Im tinkering in places that I probably should not be tinkering :-).

Maybe it would be better if I checked on things a bit more proactively at times.

It would be impractical to find out days later that something is went wrong after I already had programs installed, games saved and multiple backups made. It could set me back a week.

Just from observation. It wasn't offered to any of my 4 general availability release PCs, but it was offered to both of my Release Preview PCs. Hence, my observation as shared earlier.
Hope that makes sense.
--Ed--

Well KB5052093 just got offered through Windows Update on my non-insider comp... and the problem still exists. :/

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
And when I run either of these commands, I get the Bitdefender error shown below.

View attachment 127372
After update to 26.100.3323 (via Windows Update), I got the same error but with Avast Premium Security.

I have both reinstalled Avast and run a repair but the message still keeps appearing.

Any idea how I can clear this?

@Emer Regarding the incompatibility with Avast, Norton, and Bitdefender, if you just hit OK to the error message, sfc and dism will run to completion. The problem is that the antivirus programs are failing to hook program calls from Command Prompt, which would be a critical problem if you were trying to run an infected executable. All three antivirus companies have been notified of the issue. All we can do is to wait for an update either to the antivirus programs or to Windows. Bitdefender wrote to me that they won't issue fixes for preview releases. So, we may have to wait a week or two. (FYI: The outdated Windows Powershell does not trigger this error, but the latest version of Powershell does. Go figure!)

Appeared on WU both ARM windows version, and the standard version. Still have three dot problem on the desktop (scaling at 150% which I'm certainly not about to change for such a trivial issue). No problem with DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth or SFC /scannow. Antivirus is Eset and there were no complaints from that.

I got the same with Bitdefender so I uninstalled it. Can't run 3rd party antivirus with this build and hoping for a fix.

Personally... it'd probably be smarter to remove KB5052093.
I'm betting the fault lies with MS.
In 12 years, this is the first error I've gotten that refers to BD.

Win 7, 10 and 11

The good news is... it seems to just be a "notification". In that, it doesn't break Windows or BD.

I read somewhere on this forum that Bitdefender says that their product is not set up for Insider builds. So it seems their fault.
