Improvements​

This non-security update includes quality improvements. When you install this update:
  • [Hyper-V Platform] Fixed: An issue in the direct send path for a guest physical address (GPA) where confidential virtual machines running on Hyper-V with Windows Server 2025 might intermittently stop responding or restart unexpectedly, affecting service availability and requiring manual intervention. This issue primarily affects Azure confidential VMs.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5058523)- 26100.4060​

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. To get the standalone package(s) for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website. This KB contains one or more MSU files that must be installed in order.

Install this update
Method 1: Install all MSU files together

Download all MSU files for KB5055523 from Microsoft Update Catalog and place them in the same folder (for example, C:/Packages). Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM.exe) to install the target update. DISM will use the folder specified in PackagePath to discover and install one or more prerequisite MSU files as needed.

Updating Windows PC

To apply this update to a running Windows PC, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5053598-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:

Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath "c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5053598-x64.msu"

Updating Windows Installation media

To apply this update to Windows Installation media, see Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update.

To add this update to a mounted image, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

DISM /Image:mountdir /Add-Package /PackagePath:Windows11.0-KB5053598-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:

1 This latest cumulative update includes update for AI components. Even though the AI component updates are included in the update, the AI components are only applicable to Windows Copilot+ PCs and will not install on Windows PC or Windows Server.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

I never had this so called "out of band" update happen to this laptop before.

What is it for? Windows Update doesn't pick it up and it seems like that is intended. Is it a replacement for the expected preview update?

Seems I got the SSU on May 13th... or maybe the May 13th version of it.

I guess that KB5056579 is the .NET update.

The KB5061977 update shows as 4.3GB in the MS update catalog.

Why are these updates as big as all of Windows?

No, you don’t. Some people like the “Preview” some would rather wait for the release (generally the 2nd Tuesday of each month)

I have no idea what a "Hyper-V Platform" is but it seems VM related, something I don't do as I just use this laptop for typical stuff.

So I guess I really don't have to get this update then?

Going by the 'improvements' listed by MS:
1. Changes to Hyper-V - don't use it
2. Stack servicing update - If it was critical, it would have been pushed out via WU immediately.

I'll wait for the next WU update thanks MS.

So this replaces the typical common preview updates that Microsoft usually does? I only install those plus the monthly ones.

I think i'll just wait til next one comes via Windows update, as 1 i don't use Hyper-V, and secondly if they can't be bothered to push it via Windows update, then i assume its not critical for my system.

The preview updates for Windows 24H2 been out of a whack for a while now--i've seen 23H2 get actual cumulative preview via Windows update lately, and 24H2 sometimes a few days later--not sure why its not on same day as Windows 10 Cumulative preview update, 23H2 anymore.

Unless 24H2 has more problems than there saying lol, so they decide to hold off more often on 24H2 Cumulative preview updates
