??? This was a tiny update. When I saw it it was already installed. Duration? A couple of minutes, maybe less. No longer then 30 minutes. Remind you: keep your system healthy. Run sfc and dism once a month and before any update. If it needs to fixing than yes that can take a long time. I think this the case in your situation.

So; Run the following commands; (inside a CMD box as admin)

sfc /scannow
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

to verify that only 2 packages are reclaimable. (Those can't reclaimed and still exists from the start release; 26100.1742)

Also Windows 11 needs some maintenance once in a while. If there are errors found prior to applying the update; Windows will fix that first! That makes up the bulk of the time now. The update itself is tiny and quick. Despite this fact I found 8 packages reclaimable with 4351. So I ran /StartComponentCleanup to reclaim those.....

These commands makes sure that your Windows engine stay's healthy. It belongs to a regulair maintenance regime. It's up to everybody to use it or not. If your do not; Your system over time deviates and produces strange errors. As wel sfc as dism.... /Restorehealth are the most important ones. sfc scan your windows files and see if it's integrity is not compromised. Aka damaged. During the scan it sees those errors and fixes them automatically. /Restorehealth does the same but take a hard look at the SxS or Componentstore. When a package is damaged it will fix that automatically. Both are vital structures of Windows to keep healthy! When an update comes along and to much things is damaged; During the update the update it will start a checking regime and if errors are found tries to fix them. Sometimes the damage is too far that even sfc and dism can't fix.

My advise? It's not needed to run these each day, but once in the 2 months and before an update applying; it would be wise to do so. If not? You are risking that Windows update can't fix these errors and your stuck. Microsoft was I think also on the same crossroads. Should we implement this by a schedule on a regulair basis. They decided not to do it because it can take a long time to complete if things are damaged or not. So if anyone has troubles and asking the MS helpdesk to solve these problem; they always gave these same answers. Which commands? See a few post back in this thread.

Note: These command never show what they are fixing. If you want to know than you have to dive deep in the CBS.log or DISM.log to find out. Did you? I never came across a clear pointer that some device driver has been replaced. The loggings are to unclear to point to that. That's not important! If it fixes things, it will fix it no matter what. Never seen a logging saying clearly: replaced your bluetooth related files. They are hidden in some package for sure. Details what inside the package is sketchy..... If you want to keep your windows healthy and have no problems is up to you. It's not mandatory but prevents update problems in the future....... Laymen don't worry about those issues and that is fine also. The MS Helpdesk is there to help them. In the end sometimes everything is so efffed up that only a In-Place-Install will fix all their problems. And that is true! I once ended in a swamp of things and tried 1001 solutions to fix it (The time it takes... Pffff) that even I thought. F-it! In-place-Install of 26100.1742 will fix things and it did! Only costed my less than a hour and all troubles where gone. Could update to the last release and that was the end of it. I think it would be wise to do so each 1 or 2 years. Just to begin with a fresh slate. Gone with the rubbish. All your data will not be touched by it. Only the engine will be replaced by the original one. A new update will bring it up to the latest patch of today without any incidents.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue with this update failing? I'm currently looking into Error Code 0x80070570 tagged with this, At the moment, I’m unable to pause the update to troubleshoot further, it just grayed out

The errorcode points at "typically indicates that a file or directory is corrupted or unreadable" Advice; run CHDSK first then SFC /scannow. (CMD as admin) After that: retry.

Downloading/installing 4 computers.

@hader Thanks for your reply. I uninstalled and reinstalled the update with the same result. I did an in place reinstall which seems to have solved the freezing problem. Is there any difference in using the "Fix problems using Windows Update" in Settings/Recovery and downloading from the Microsoft website when doing an in place reinstall? Thanks

The In-Place Upgrade uses the ISO that's ON your computer.
Fixing things with Windows Update, uses the internet.

Personally, I like to avoid using the internet when trying to fix the computer.

I finally decided to try the unreclaimable package commands on my machines. One had 5 unreclaimable, the second had 9 unreclaimable, and the old third machine had 15 unreclaimable packages lol. So after component store cleanup all were reduced to the two that wouldn't remove. Your custom command removed those two on two machines but it doesn't work on the little ARM64 machine. I get an error message on that one that the specified package is not valid Windows Package. I guess two out of three isn't bad though.

The Widgets / Lock Screen update is a bit more useful now.
I just have Phone Link and Weather at the moment.

I installed this Update on 4 pcs yesterday not without problems. On 2 machines I had issues with Defender not being able to check for updates- Protection definition update failed" Error Code 8024402e. The only thing I did differently to the other 2 was to run cleanmgr to delete files and old System Restore points. This cleaned all Restore points and didn't leave the most recent. Eventually I tried creating a Restore point and Defender starred checking for updates.
Is there any possible connection between Restore Points in cleanmgr and preventing Defender from checking? Seems odd!! Still can't clear 190MB in update cleanup.

Yes. Ghot is right. The difference between the two; "Fix problems using Windows Update"; It uses the Windows Update engine to download the "Windows 11, version 24H2 (recovery edition)" This is a very lengthy proces and slow. I would avoid that!
Downloading the Windows 11 ISO (26100.1742) from the Microsoft website is done in a few minutes. All you have to do is to start setup.exe and done.

The big advantage is once you downloaded the ISO you can store it somewhere and use it again and again when needed. The Windows Update one will download the recovery edition again and again...

All good and truly appreciate the effort, but I got this PC only mid-May and frankly speaking this was the first CU that got deployed on top of the usual 22H2/22H3/22H4 staged migrations that were taking place since original factory image from HP recovery media was used.

Just as a follow up to my question about repair installs, is there any difference between downloading the W11 Install Media and the W11 Disk Image ( ISO) to do an in place/Repair Install. We have PC's in US English and English International with UK Language Packs and we want to use the "Recomended Options For this PC" option do it is pre selected. I think this appears in the W11 Installation Media option but I think in the ISO you have to specify the language but I'm not sure about this. Thanks.

That said. This update should not take >30 min. That was my point. It was more busy fixing things then the update itself.

Yes, if you use the Media Creation Tool to make an ISO then if you use 'Recommended Options For this PC' you'll get the right language for the PC running the MCT. You can un-tick that option, then you can chose any language you need.

You don't need to download an ISO on each PC, once you have made one English (en-us) and one English International (en-gb) ISO, then you can just use the appropriate one on each PC that needs it.

If you download an ISO directly, then you will have to choose which language to download. The ISO you get this way will be larger than one made by the MCT. There are two reasons for this. First it contains an install.wim rather than the more compressed format of an install.esd that the MCT will make. Second, it contains additional editions that are not in the MCT's ISO, Workstation for example.

For an in-place repair install for Home or Pro either will do.

First time I ever got the weather to show. I could just see the traffic widget in the past.
