Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26300.7733 (KB5074178) to the Dev Channel.

Changes in Dev Channel builds and updates are documented in two buckets: new features, improvements, and fixes that are being gradually rolled out for Insiders who have turned on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available (via Settings > Windows Update*) and then new features, improvements, and fixes rolling out to everyone in the Dev Channel. For more information, see the Reminders section at the bottom of this blog.

[Built-in Sysmon]​

Previously announced here, Windows now brings Sysmon functionality natively to Windows. Sysmon functionality allows you to capture system events that can help with threat detection, and you can use custom configuration files to filter the events you want to monitor. The captured events are written on the Windows event log, enabling them to be used with security applications and a wide range of use cases.

Built-in Sysmon is disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled.
  1. Go to Settings > System > Optional features > More Windows features > checking Sysmon or in PowerShell or command prompt:

    Dism /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:Sysmon
  2. To complete the installation, from PowerShell or command prompt run:

    Sysmon -i
Note: If you’ve already installed Sysmon from the website, it must be uninstalled before enabling the built-in Sysmon.

[Voice Access]​

  • Support for the Netherlands locale has been added.

Fixes gradually being rolled out with toggle on*​

[File Explorer]​

  • We fixed a few issues in File Explorer, including accessibility improvements (keyboard navigation and access keys), folder renaming with custom names, and missing icons/tooltips for “Add to favorites”.

[Other]​

  • We fixed an issue that caused apps to freeze when working with files on OneDrive or Dropbox. Some Outlook setups with PSTs on OneDrive could also hang or reload email data.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel​

  • Updates are based on Windows 11, version 25H2 via an enablement package (Build 26300.7733).
  • Many features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • The desktop watermark shown at the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for Windows Insider pre-release builds.
  • For Windows Insiders who want to be the first to get features gradually rolled out to you, you can turn ON the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update*. Over time, we will increase the rollouts of features to everyone with the toggle turned on. Should you keep this toggle off, new features will gradually be rolled out to your PC over time once they are ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.

Did this build do anything funny in terms of not opening links in your default browser, assuming your default browser isn't Edge? It sure seems to have here. So far, I've noticed the association for https and html changed to Edge, but changing them back hasn't helped. I must be missing the key one.

I just finished the installation and, as with the previous build, I'm still having this Windows activation problem. Well, I have no choice, I'm going back to version 26220.7653

As soon as you open a link from something like a mail or chat program, Edge re-steals the https protocol association (and .html, but that's less important), effectively making itself the default browser. It does this every time. If this isn't a Windows build thing, then it's a huge coincidence, though maybe it's an Edge thing: it updated to Version 145.0.3800.36 (Beta) yesterday, too....

Update: Open a link from Outlook or Teams. That's what does it. I tried opening a link from a non-MS program, and the problem doesn't trigger.

Astonishingly, disabling UCPD didn't help.

Update 2: To workaround, I resorted to creating a symbolic link between Edge and my browser. Edge can still be run (for now, until this issue is sorted) by creating a shortcut to the "deep path" version, such as: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\145.0.3800.36\msedge.exe" --profile-directory=Default

Update 3: Someone already created the issue in Feedback.

Fixing Download Error - 0x80010002 in Windows​

  1. Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
  2. Navigate to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  3. Locate Windows Update under Most frequent and click Run.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions and restart your PC after troubleshooting.
Restart Windows Update Components

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator by searching for cmd, right-clicking, and selecting Run as administrator.
  2. Execute the following commands one by one to stop update services: net stop bits net stop wuauserv net stop appidsvc net stop cryptsvc
  3. Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows
  4. .
  5. Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to SoftwareDistribution.old.
  6. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32 and rename the Catroot2 folder to Catroot2.old.
  7. Return to the Command Prompt and restart the services using these commands: net start bits net start wuauserv net start appidsvc net start cryptsvc
  8. Restart your computer.
Run System File Checker and DISM

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  2. Run the command sfc /scannow and wait for the process to complete.
  3. After completion, execute DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  4. Restart your PC.
Perform a Clean Boot

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  2. Under the General tab, select Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items.
  3. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
  4. Open Task Manager via the Startup tab and disable all enabled programs.
  5. Restart your computer and retry the update.
Disable Third-Party Antivirus

  1. Open Settings and go to Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection.
  2. Scroll down to Real-Time Protection and toggle it Off.
  3. Retry the update process.
Manually Install Pending Updates

  1. Visit the Microsoft Update Catalog.
  2. Search for the update code (e.g., KBxxxxxxx) and download the appropriate version for your system.
  3. Run the downloaded file to install the update manually.
These steps should resolve the 0x80010002 error and allow updates to proceed successfully.

I was unable to update the previous Dev update. This one loaded, was a bit slow. I was going to do the iso if this failed. First attempt failed due to a driver issue.
