Improvements​

This security update contains fixes and quality improvements from KB5074109 (released January 13, 2026). KB5077744 (released January 17, 2026), and KB5078127 (released January 24, 2026). The following summary outlines key issues addressed by this update. Also, included are available new features. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change.
  • [Gaming] Fixed: This update addresses an issue that determines device eligibility for the full-screen gaming experience.
  • [Networking] Fixed: This update addresses an issue that prevented some devices from connecting to certain WPA3‑Personal Wi‑Fi networks. The issue might occur after you install KB5074105.
  • [Secure Boot] With this update, Windows quality updates include a broad set of targeting data that identifies devices and their ability to receive new Secure Boot certificates. Devices will receive the new certificates only after they show sufficient successful update signals, which helps ensures a safe and phased rollout.
If you've already installed previous updates, your device will download and install only the new updates included in this package.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5077869)- 26100.7839​

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Install this update

Method 1: Install all MSU files together

Download all MSU files for KB5077181 from Microsoft Update Catalog and place them in the same folder (for example, C:/Packages). Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM.exe) to install the target update. DISM will use the folder specified in PackagePath to discover and install one or more prerequisite MSU files as needed.

Updating Windows PC

To apply this update to a running Windows PC, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5077181-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:

Download and install each MSU file individually either using DISM or Windows Update Standalone Installer in the following order:

  2. windows11.0-kb5077181-x64_33d38563662e659ceb84fb8b65aa05ce5876f5a4.msu
1 This latest cumulative update includes updates for AI components. Even though the AI component updates are included in the update, the AI components are only applicable to Windows Copilot+ PCs and will not install on Windows PC or Windows Server.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Well, that is how I use it. All my Office apps are on my PC, even Outlook is used with a locally stored PST file, and I never use the Cloud based apps. None of my Word or Excel files have ever lived on, or been to, the Microsoft Server.

I do however have my OneNote Notebooks on OneDrive, that is so I have access to those Notebooks on my three mobile devices. My 1TB OneDrive is all but empty.

I too have a Microsoft 365 subscription. But I take full advantage of my 1 TB of OneDrive. Both my System One and System Two log in to the same Microsoft Account and have the same OneDrive. I keep all my data and photos in my local OneDrive folder. However, I turn Files On Demand to OFF on both computers. This makes the data on both computers a real-time mirror of cloud OneDrive and a real-time mirror of each other. My data is always identical locally on both machines and if my main computer ever fails, I can transparently move to my backup computer as if nothing ever happened. I love the security of always having two local copies of my data kept identical in real-time.

And therein lies the beauty of the OneDrive concept - that is, to make edits to a file and have those edits automatically saved and synced across all your devices. It's a great concept and very useful. Except for my OneNote Notebooks, I really don't need it "that much" as I only use my second computer as mostly a backup system. The very few files that I do change from time to time, I just copy them over via my network connection. But if I had another workstation, at another location, I would defiantly use the OneDrive approach more. It is a great concept for file syncing no doubt about that.

Folks have different needs. I retired early and have been a sole proprietor working from home for the last 25 years. I live on my computers, and my data means everything to me. I also make nightly Macrium Reflect X images alternating on three Samsung 4TB T9 Portable SSD drives. I'm serious about not losing data. OneDrive is the off-site component of my 3-2-1 Backup Strategy.

Have many hot-swappable 4TB HDD's as storage. Beats the use of tapes) You can use the application that's in the cloud. Browser version. But that is a tuned down version of the one locally. You don't have to use an active internet connection (offline) for this (You need to have one in order to sync your locally stored OneDrive to the cloud) BUT! "If you don't connect to the Internet at least once a month, your applications will go into reduced functionality mode, and you might see an unlicensed product error. To reactivate your Microsoft 365 applications, simply reconnect to the internet and sign in to Microsoft 365." (2021 and 2024 does this also at startup. Programs and data is stored locally.) You can store your MS 365 data in the cloud (OneDrive. 1 copy locally and a copy in the cloud. Continuously synced.) or locally. (No OneDrive location)

Don't have OneDrive. (local account) All Office data is stored on my 256Gb USB3.2 stick which I can take it everywhere I go. I also have a backup locally stored on an other external 2TB USB drive. Don't need any backup of my bookmarks, passwords etc. because I export automatically the information on a regular basis. I also do not need the backup function. (Again OneDrive.) It's automatically done by Hasleo. There are many roads that lead to Rome.

I really don't get what your issue is - who on this globe is not going to connect at least once a month to the internet when using any of the office applications - I mean what would be the point, are you going to print out your spreadsheet and send it in an envelope across to the recipient by snail post?

I also have my phone sync snapshots and videos directly onto my OneDrive and this is very useful as I can then pick up editing on any of my synched machines. Also have "on demand" turned off on all connected machines so that I always have local copies available in addition to the cloud.

Go here in Display settings. Make sure you do it in SMALL increments though or you can make your display totally unreadable.

You are missing the point here. (print out an spreadsheet and send it by mail??? Really? We don't live in the stone age....) Why verify my copy of MSO2021 if I registered it already when installed with a valid key and may use it for the rest of it's shelf live? (Even then I still don't own the product) I already have a legal copy. No need to check that each day or when offline for nearly a month? If you bought a car from a dealer. Do you call him each morning saying "I am using it today. May I drive it?...." ?? MS is keeping track when I use Office. It's valid to contact MS to see if there are updates pending for it, but that is not the case here. You bought it, no updates. If you want some kind of new functionality; buy it's successor; 2024. (Saw no difference between 2021 and 2024. Some very minor changes. So I didn't.)
