Known issues in this update

1 Password icon might be missing or invisible in the lock screen sign-in options

Symptoms

After installing the August 2025 non-security preview update (KB5064081) or later updates, you might notice that the password icon is not visible in the sign-in options on the lock screen. If you hover over the space where the icon should appear, you’ll see that the password button is still available. Select this placeholder to open the password text box and enter your password. After entering your password, you can sign in normally.

Individuals using Windows Home or Pro editions on personal devices are very unlikely to experience this issue. This issue primarily affects enterprise or managed IT environments.

Workaround

This issue is mitigated using Known Issue Rollback (KIR).

For enterprise-managed devices managed by IT departments that have installed the affected update and encountered this issue, IT administrators can resolve it by installing and configuring the Group policy listed below. The special Group Policy can be found in Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > <Group Policy name listed below>.
For information on deploying and configuring these special Group Policy, please see How to use Group Policy to deploy a Known Issue Rollback.

This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update.
YesBefore you install this update

To get the standalone package(s) for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website. This KB contains one or more MSU files that require installation in a specific order.

Install this update

Method 1: Install all MSU files together

Download all MSU files for KB5078127 from Microsoft Update Catalog and place them in the same folder (for example, C:/Packages). Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM.exe) to install the target update. DISM will use the folder specified in PackagePath to discover and install one or more prerequisite MSU files as needed.

Updating Windows PC
To apply this update to a running Windows PC, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

DISM /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5078127-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:

Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath "c:\packages\Windows11.0-KB5078127-x64.msu"

Or use Windows Update Standalone Installer to install the target update.

Updating Windows Installation media

To apply this update to Windows Installation media, see Update Windows installation media with Dynamic Update.

Note: When downloading other Dynamic Update packages, ensure they match the same month as this KB. If the SafeOS Dynamic Update or Setup Dynamic Update is not available for the same month as this KB, use the most recently published version of each.

To add this update to a mounted image, run the following command from an elevated Command Prompt:

DISM /Image:mountdir /Add-Package /PackagePath:Windows11.0-KB5078127-x64.msu

Or, run the following command from an elevated Windows PowerShell prompt:

Add-WindowsPackage -Path "c:\offline" -PackagePath "Windows11.0-KB5078127-x64.msu" -PreventPending

Method 2: Install each MSU file individually, in order

Download and install each MSU file individually either using DISM or Windows Update Standalone Installer in the following order:
  1. windows11.0-kb5043080-x64_953449672073f8fb99badb4cc6d5d7849b9c83e8.msu
  2. windows11.0-kb5078127-x64_2669c24d8d8227e7992853d32fb4e95873bbe6bf.msu
1 This latest cumulative update includes updates for AI components. Even though the AI component updates are included in the update, the AI components are only applicable to Windows Copilot+ PCs and will not install on Windows PC or Windows Server.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

File Information

For a list of the files provided in this update, download the file information for cumulative update 5078127.

For a list of the files provided in the servicing stack update, download the file information for the SSU (KB5071142) - version 26100.7295.

I have the same 0x80073712 error. It was only two weeks ago that I performed a full Dell OS recovery which installed the latest Win 11 25H2 Home, and then I upgraded to Pro.

It seems to be a "very" edge case issue with Dell's OEM recovery installer, as I discovered in the CBS logs why the error is occurring. Here's a summary of my investigation.

KB5078127 failing on Dell OEM installs, possible cause:

I’ve been digging into why KB5078127 fails with 0x80073712 on a fully clean Windows 11 Pro 25H2 install (done via Dell OS Recovery, not an upgrade).

Turns out this isn’t actual corruption.
Dell’s recovery image appears to pre-provision extra language components at the OEM level (in my case nl-NL), even if you never select them during setup, and they don’t show as display languages.

Settings won’t let you remove them.
These language components are marked permanent, so DISM / Windows can’t remove or reinstall them.

With recent 25H2 updates, Windows Update now validates all permanent language components during install. If one of these OEM languages is out of sync with the current OS baseline, the update fails during staging with 0x80073712, even though DISM/SFC say the system is healthy.

DISM reports “repairable”, not corrupted, and removing/re-adding languages doesn’t help. The update fails every time.

I'm not certain if the System > Recovery path would fix it, because if it uses Dell's OEM image the error would likely persist. The only guaranteed fix is an in-place repair using a Microsoft ISO, which should rebuild the provisioning metadata.

I'm personally going to skip KB5078127 and wait for a newer cumulative that supersedes it, since my OS is stable and I'm not experiencing any other issues.
Thank you my friend!! Recovery path via windows update fix will work 100%. I am pretty sure about it, because when I got my laptop (with all the preinstalled stupid intel apps and antivirus apps like MacAfee, win 1125h2 home etc) I then tried for the first time to install the latest December's security update. It failed of course...then I used the recovery path and everything went fine! What I did? Reformatted my laptop only via MS iso download page with win 11 25h2 pro installed and without all these stupid preinstalled apps.
So, after doing almost every safe move (sfc, dism restore, dism resetbase, running winupdate troubleshooter, cleared cache and windows update cache, and manually tried to update as well)....
I FINALLY FIXED IT WITHOUT THE RECOVERY MODE!!! SOLUTION: index rebuild after freshly formatted dell Alienware laptop!!!!!!!

Well, the problem was partially fixed, but not in all cases. 😵‍💫🤣🤷‍♂️
1) The white flashing is quite easy to reproduce with specific settings. File explorer opened to "This PC" and just adding new tabs.
2) The black flashing can be reproduced when changing the color mode from dark to light while file explorer is already opened on "Home" and then adding new tabs.
First one is present 🤣

After updating to the KB5078127 (OS Builds 26200.7628) first when performing SFC /scannow i've got the massage 'Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Error: 0x800f0915'.
After perfoming DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth and again SFC /scannow it was fixed and "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them". So far no problems, but I'm not goning to get KB5074105 (OS Builds 26200.7705), i'll wait until feb. 10 update.

I never got this update. Has MS pulled it? I see the preview available now (KB5074105).
It was an optional update. You'd only get it automatically if you had 'get the latest updates....' turned on in Windows Update.

No, it's not been pulled, but it has been superseded. Windows Update only offers the latest available CU, which is now the Preview update.

Following up from my findings re: error 0x80073712, I ended up skipping this update and making a UUPDump ISO of the latest preview build (26200.7705). I performed an in-place repair install (keep files and apps) and everything is now working normally again.

This is easily the cleanest way to recover from stubborn servicing failures when DISM/SFC and Windows Update go in circles. It effectively resets the OS layer while preserving everything on top.
