Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
Important: Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices are set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on consumer and non-managed business devices over the past several months. Devices that haven’t received the newer certificates will continue to start and operate normally, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. Updated certificates will continue to be delivered through Windows Update in the coming months.

End of updates​

Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Devices running these editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise and Education editions remain supported until October 12, 2027.

  • [Secure Boot] With this update, Windows quality updates include additional high confidence device targeting data, increasing coverage of devices eligible to automatically receive new Secure Boot certificates. Devices receive the new certificates only after demonstrating sufficient successful update signals, maintaining a controlled and phased rollout.
  • [Virtualization] Fixed: This update addresses an issue that could result in Stop errors HYPERVISOR_ERROR (0x20001) and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E) after installing KB5089573 on some devices during system restarts, virtual machine operations, or while running some gaming applications
  • [Folder customization] This update introduces a security hardening change to how Windows processes desktop.ini files. As a result, some users might notice missing custom folder icons or localized folder names for content from downloaded or remote locations. Note that access to folders is not affected. For more information, see Custom folder icons or localized folder names might not appear after installing the June 2026 Windows security update.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5094135)- 26100.8648​

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. Known issues in this update​

Symptoms

Microsoft has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications might be unable to launch Microsoft Office applications or open documents after installing the Windows updates released on or after June 9, 2026. This issue affects certain third-party applications that use OLE automation to interact with Microsoft Office applications. In some cases, the Office application or document might fail to open without displaying an error message.

Affected Microsoft Office applications might include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other Microsoft Office applications when launched from within the affected third-party application.

Reports indicate that this issue may affect applications such as CCH Engagement, Workpaper Manager, dental software (such as Dentrix and Softdent), and Zotero; other similar applications might also be impacted.

Workaround

This issue is resolved in Windows updates released on and after July 14, 2026 such as KB5101650. We recommend you install the latest Windows update for your device as it contains important improvements and issue resolutions, including this one.

Symptoms

After you install Windows updates released on June 9, 2026, the confirmation dialog might display the internal Recycle Bin file name (for example, $Rxxxxx.ext) instead of the original file name when you permanently delete a single item. In Recycle Bin, the item still appears with its original name.

This issue affects only the confirmation dialog. In the Recycle Bin, the item still appears with its original file name. If you restore the item, Windows restores it using the original file name.

Workaround

This issue is addressed in KB5095093.

How to get this update​

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates.

Deployment​

If you deploy dynamic updates such as this update to an existing Windows image, ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media. Failure to include the file might prevent devices from successfully starting from the installation media and can result in error code 0xc0430001.

Note: The boot.stl file is used during Secure Boot validation and must match the Windows version and architecture of the image you are updating.

To ensure the boot.stl file is included as part of the installation media, do one of the following:
  • Use the Update WinPE script to update an existing Windows image. (Recommended)
  • Manually copy the boot.stl file from the device Windows\Boot\EFI folder to the corresponding folder on your installation media before deploying the update.

This update has issues. It borks the Start menu layout, which can only be fixed by going into the Group Policy Editor to restore your settings. It resets Windows Update policies you may have had set such as disabling driver updates etc... again you need to fix it in the Group Policy Editor. Also it resets "File Open" information, so executables you have opened for years such as your browser now have a "Security Warning" saying the application was downloaded from the internet and may harm your computer etc....

When I install Patch Tuesday security updates, I don't expect my choices and settings to be removed/reset and needing to spend an hour or two fixing things.

Hello, After the update When I delete a file, the Recycle Bin itself shows the correct filename, but the delete confirmation dialog shows internal names like $Rxxxx instead of the real file name.

As others pointed out, I also had 2 restarts. Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth took 15 minutes, give or take, to complete when it normally takes a minute or 2 at the most. SFC Scannow also took longer than normal.

Other than that, SFC and DISM found no errors.

Still getting TPM-WMI error event ID 1796 and Netwtw10 warning event ID 6062 in the event viewer. For what ever reason HP is not updating the Intel Driver which I believe is causing the Netwtw10 warning event. :rolleyes:

But at least you can compare the recycled file vs the original. You get their real names. I hope :)

Maybe the developers think every day is April 1st or something...

Applied this update without any issues. SFC and RestoreHealth OK. But.... SFX fixed 3 "corrupted" files; BthA2dp.sys, BthHfEnum.sys and btmodem.sys
Find it strange that RestoreHealth at the first time found 600 corrupted files after this update. It repaired it but the whole RestoreHealth proces is now taking longer than usual. Other people noticed that also. It starts to slow down around 63% and continues to 67%. What it's doing? Well watching the CBS log; it tries to download something from the MS servers. (If they are having a heavy load; the longer this part delays that RestoreHealth proces) No mention what kind of file it is, and it size is 0 bytes. (!?!?!?!?) It does this now every time even there is nothing to fix and to restore...... It took a long time at the first run, but will also be as slow for the 2nd, 3th etc. time. And where are those "corrupted files" coming from? By running this update? A previous restorehealth action found no corrupted files...... So an update places corrupted files onto your system and needs to repair them with that /RestoreHealth command? Strange...

The package that I had to fix after the preview update (that caused that DISM Error: : 0x800f0915 or [HRESULT = 0x800f0915 - CBS_E_REPAIR_CONTENT_MISSING]) is (amd64_microsoft-windows-s..rver-apis.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.26100.2161_nl-nl_b443d00bdbef7989\r\smbwmiv2.mfl) is now completely gone.... I also noticed that there is now a new directory inside C:\Windows\WinSXS directory (ComponentStore) that I not noticed before: Temp. It contains some 236Mb of data and contains 3 directory's; InFlight, PendingDeletes and PendingRenames. Only the PendingRenames directory is empty. The fact that this is a Temp directory I am not sure if I can empty this directory. Looking at it's date it seems to be created by the previous 26200.8524 update. It's now reused again by this update.

Also cleanmgr.exe sees 190Mb of old Windows update files (no clue where they are located; CatRoot? Softwaredistribution?) that can be deleted, but can't get rid of these files. Only after a Inplace-Instalment they are gone. But if you apply the latest update they are back again. Windows refuses to delete these files. It is just like DISM /AnalyzeComponentStore command. Always say that 2 packages can be cleaned up and advice to run /StartComponentCleanup But after that they are also still there.

Hi. Updated 2 of our 4 pcs today - both very slow downloads. I've noticed that Settings/Storage has a new "Clean Up System Files" button which I haven't used yet. On one pc that has a MS Account alongside a local account when cleaning Local Account Storage you aren't asked for the Admin pin any more . I agree with others about the deletion confirmation name being different to original file name.

You should install the latest driver from Intel's website, the so called "generic" driver

The only way to fix this DISM is an in place upgrade I feel. StartComponentCleanup failed for me. Giving out 1726 error.

I have previously removed the two packages using DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase and the 190 MB of Windows update files after previous updates.
There are many posts on the pros and cons re leaving or removing the two reclaimable packages. Posts have stated the two reclaimable packages are needed as a baseline for security updates but have I not read anything from Microsoft to say they are or not needed.
I have run my system with and without the two reclaimable packages and not noticed any difference.
The two reclaimable packages reappeared on my system after a recent repair install using Windows Update.
