Insider KB5127842 Windows 11 Insider Experimental (26H2) build 26340.9750 - Oct. 16

UPDATE 10/23:

 Microsoft Support:

Changes and improvements gradually being rolled out

[Gaming]

  • We're introducing a refreshed Gaming Task View experience in XBOX mode, featuring a new navigation bar that provides quick access to Exit to Desktop and Power Options. This update makes key system actions easier to access while gaming.

Screenshot that shows Gaming Task View showing the new navigation bar with Exit to Desktop and Power options.
Gaming Task View showing the new navigation bar with Exit to Desktop and Power options.

[Web sign-in]

  • Web sign-in now works on Microsoft Entra hybrid joined devices. Before this update, it was only available on Microsoft Entra joined devices. You can sign in to Windows at the lock screen with a passwordless credential: a FIDO2 security key, a passkey on your phone, or a Temporary Access Pass (TAP). You don't need a password. Once you're signed in, Windows gets a Kerberos ticket, so on-premises file shares and internal sites keep working. For more information, see Use web sign-in to enable passwordless sign-in in Windows.

[Windows Hello]

  • Windows Hello facial recognition can temporarily brighten your screen to help you sign in when you're in a dark or dimly lit room.
  • To turn on this feature, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Facial recognition (Windows Hello) and turn on Automatically adjust screen brightness during face recognition.

Screenshot of a UI showing the setting to automatically adjust screen brightness during Windows Hello facial recognition.

[File Explorer]

  • Improved responsiveness of folder views so they update and sort correctly when files and folders are added or renamed.

[Windows Search]

  • Addressed underlying issues that could cause search to appear missing or stop working after the previous update, including if you rapidly clicked the search icon repeatedly.

[Run]

For Insiders with the new Run dialog enabled:
  • Improved the window position when using an Arabic or Hebrew display language.
  • Improved performance of the Run dialog when navigating to very large folders.
  • Fixed an issue where your text might unexpectedly disappear if you started typing too quickly after opening Run.
  • Made a few other small visual fixes and refinements.

[Other]

  • Improved shutdown reliability, reducing the chance of a hang on shutdown in certain cases.
  • The dialog for certain system messages, like low battery and permissions, should use the expected modern design again.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel

  • Updates are based on Windows 11, version 26H2 via an enablement package (Build 26340.9750).
  • Many features are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time. We monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • The desktop watermark shown at the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for Windows Insider pre-release builds.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds might never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features might change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they're ready.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders might not be fully localized, and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
  • Check out Flight Hub for a complete look at what build is in which Insider channel.

After logging in, the desktop won't load; just a black screen

I don't have that problem;
all those IDs are already disabled by default in my machine; I never enabled them. 🤷‍♂️

You’re chatting with Gemini? Great!
Simply shutting down your computer can also help. Note that this refers to a full shutdown, not a restart. Try asking the Gemini: why does shutting down the computer—but not restarting it—help resolve "File Explorer" issues that occur after a system update? ;)

Okay! I use Gemini to help me understand Windows better, I wanted to join insider for the performance promises, but im not a power user; I need guidance. It's a good tool for novices doing things out of their lane.

Interesting, I already have three of the four vivetool ID's enabled on my latest Beta build. I was curious to give this feature a try on Beta but after reading the blank screen and explorer issues on this thread I'll be leaving id: 57739723 disabled till you guys figure out those issues. 😉

Definitely causing the problem described in post #18 if you enable the 4 IDs mentioned above. 😖🤷‍♂️
vivetool /enable /id:57739723,58381341,59210767,59210771
I tried enabling all 4 and recreated the bug, then disabled the 57739723 and that eliminated the problem. 🤞
Anyway, after the experiment, I reset all 4 to the image default. I cannot find any clear description about for those 4 IDs. New search UI?
I see 3 of those enabled on Build 28120.3272, and it shows a new search UI. It opens a search box in the center over the taskbar. 😵‍💫

I was using the later three id's plus an additional id to test the new taskbar search feature on a beta build which works by the way. I never enabled that 57739723 however although I was wanting to test the Windows Hello automatic screen brightness feature. In any event I have disabled them all now since I only search from the Start menu not taskbar and that first code sounds to unstable to try at the moment.

It works on my 26H1 Build 28120.3272, and only shows the last 3 IDs enabled, the 1st one is disabled.
The feature was enabled by Microsoft with the available Flag, I did not need to use vivetool.

To me it looks like another useless feature. 😝🤷‍♂️
Since I'm using these codes on beta builds I need vivetool. I totally spaced the 58381341 code is needed with three others to control my new run dialog box as well so reenabled that one again.

I got these on my machines without messing with Vivetool, all enabled by Microsoft. 🤷‍♂️

Again, you're on 26340.XXXX, I'm enabling them on Beta which has the same coding but vivetool is needed to enable it. 😉

The point is that I let Microsoft decide when to enable new features, I only use vivetool to disable the ones I don't like. 🤣🤷‍♂️

I have seen too many problems and conflicts when I used to enable features without letting Microsoft make the decisions.
So, I stopped doing that. 🤷‍♂️

Edit:
B.T.W. These features are available on 26340.9750 and also 28120.3272 without messing with Vivetool.
Just options in Settings and Feature flags that are available to be enabled.
