Win Update KB5129195 Windows 11 Out-of-band Cumulative Update build 26100.9457 (24H2), 26200.9457 (25H2), and 26300.9457 (26H2) - Sept. 14



 Microsoft Support:

This out-of-band (OOB) update for Windows 11, version 25H2 and Windows 11, version 24H2 (KB5129195) is cumulative. It includes updates from previous releases, along with additional security and non-security improvements. Visit the Windows release health dashboard for the latest status on this release.

Improvements​

This OOB update includes the following improvement:
  • [Security] This update includes protections documented in CVE-2026-62721, which refers to a Windows User-Mode Power Service (UMPS) Elevation of Privilege vulnerability.
  • [Remote Desktop Services (known issue)] Fixed: This update addresses an issue affecting Remote Desktop Services (RDS) after installing the September 2026 Windows security update (KB5122880). In affected environments, RDS might become unstable, causing RDP connection and sign-in failures or servers to become unresponsive during Remote Desktop configuration. Related tools, including Microsoft Management Console (MMC), RDS Licensing Diagnoser, File Explorer, and the Windows Update page, might also stop responding.
  • [Hyper-V (known issue)] Fixed: Some applications that use HCS-managed virtual machines experienced issues when sharing host folder with Linux VMs using Plan9. Folders shared from the Windows host using Plan9 did not appear or could not be accessed in the guest environment.
  • [8-channel or 3D audio modes] Fixed: Some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices functioning as expected in standard stereo configurations failed when using multichannel audio features, including 8-channel or 3D audio modes. (Note: There are other audio symptoms not resolved in this OOB update. See the “Known issues in this update” section for more information.)

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5124007) - 22621.9441​

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. Known issues in this update​

Symptoms

After installing the September 8, 2026, Windows security update, some USB Audio Class 1.0 devices might fail to start or produce audio. Affected devices might experience one or more of the following symptoms: The device displays an error in Device Manager: "This device cannot start (Code 10).” No audio output. Volume controls are unresponsive or remain at zero. Sound settings are unresponsive or unavailable. This issue is limited to USB Audio Class 1.0 devices.

Resolution
Microsoft is working on a resolution and will update this documentation when more information is available.

For most things provided you disable secure boot, bitlocker and device encryption (why would a typical HOME user need any of that stuff which makes recovering a problem machine near impossible) the old Free edition with it's last update still works perfectly --and for backing up DATA as opposed to just backing up the OS there's a zillion and one alternatives -- this depends on your needs but really important stuff can be backed up to the cloud these days quite cheaply !!! -- alo if you have Office/365 (I don't BTW) you get quite a bit of cloud storage anyway. I have a separate account for a decent amount at around €14 for the year - very reasonable.

In any case external storage is very cheap (currently) too. For stuff that rarely changes e.g multi-media files old spinners (provided they have big and fast cache sizes) are ideal -- several TB costs peanuts and you can run initial data backup say overnight etc.

A lot of the solutions proposed in these threads is very much old C20 methodology. Times have moved on -- home users should be more worried about being scammed than all this "extra protection". If you use a computer for work or a load of specialized financial transactions e.g stock market trading then OK but for bog standard home users you don't need any of that stuff.

OK. An OOB Update this time. It seems to be a quick fix for a number of issues. Installation was also very quick with just 2 reboots.
SFC repaired 2 Bluetooth drivers that were fine with the previous build (??) ScanHealth showed this time no corruptions in the end-result.
This was the case with the previous update despite ScanHealth said "The restore operation completed successfully"
Since ScanHealth doesn't fix anything, you still need to run RestoreHealth once!!

To check the End Results in the CBS.log I made a .ps1 script to quickly filter out it findings. This is quicker that dig down the complete CBS.log. Maybe it can to be of some use for other users. Just rename the CheckCBS.txt file in the attachment into .ps1. (Rename RCeck_CBS.txt into .cmd and just double-click on it)

Despite this is a OOB update; This time there was no package cleanup afterwards. Packages 79x 9457 packages are just added allongside the exiting ones; 79x 9444 and 1x 9455. Just like a preview update. Total packages went up again from 148 to 263.

Installed today! Still getting TPM-WMI error event ID 1796 and Netwtw10 warning event ID 6062 in the event viewer. The Netwtw10 warning is on HP for not updating their Intel WIFI adapter . Other than that, SFC and DISM found no errors with the exception that Componet Store had 1 reclaimable package.

It did reboot 3 times. Only time will tell if this was a clean update. :cool:

Event ID 1796's are common with older HP's. The Secure Boot update task is getting a HW error while trying to add updates. HP needs to provide a BIOS update, which probably isn't coming.

I've been using Paragon Hard Disk Manager for years with excellent results, and besides excellent backup/restore function it's also resolved some OS problems for me.

Thanks. I used an old version of that a long time ago but haven't kept up - I shall have to compare it with Macrium, although to be fair, Macrium seems to be doing a good job. Always room for improvement I guess 😉

I have the latest Intel driver from Intel installed and it makes no difference.
