Known and Resolved issues for Windows 11 version 21H2

  • Staff

Current status as of October 10, 2023

As of October 10, 2023, Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, version 21H2 have reached end of servicing. The October 2023 security update, released on October 10, 2023, is the last update available for these editions. After this date, devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise multi-session editions for this version will reach end of servicing on October 8, 2024 and will receive security updates until then.

To help keep you protected and productive, Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update for Windows 11 consumer devices and non-managed business devices that are at, or within several months of reaching, end of servicing. This keeps your device supported and receiving monthly updates that are critical to security and ecosystem health. For these devices, you will be able to choose a convenient time for your device to restart and complete the update.

As always, we recommend that you update your devices to the latest version of Windows 11. For detailed information, see the Windows 11, version 21H2 end of servicing (Home & Pro) lifecycle page. For information about servicing timelines and lifecycle, see Windows 11 release information, Lifecycle FAQ - Windows, and Microsoft Lifecycle Policy search tool.

UPDATE:

Current status as of January 26, 2022 (PT)

The upgrade offer to Windows 11 is entering its final phase of availability and is designated for broad deployment for eligible devices*. Since the launch of Windows 11 in October, we have seen strong demand and preference for Windows 11 with people upgrading their eligible PCs at twice the rate we saw for Windows 10. Based on this trend, we are advancing the pace of the rollout faster than we originally announced and entering the final phase of availability for Windows 11 ahead of our initial plan of mid-2022.

There's really no reason not to on a qualifying machine.
On a qualifying machine - agree no reason not to use W11 but for NON qualifying machines especially if they only fail on not listed CPU -- there's plenty of mega decent hardware out there from Quad XEON's to Gen 6 CPU's that don't meet the W11 CPU specs for W11 but are perfectly competant machines in ever other way.

If you want "W11" type experience on a "Non qualifying machine" just download the 180 days W22 Server evaluation -- turning a server into a Desktop workstation is quite easy - doesn't need a whole lot of expertise and the servers really do perform at "Lightning Speed" compared to the standard consumer grade OS.

Why chuck away perfectly good competant hardware -- in any case if you really are going to junk it for newer stuff that old hardware would make for excellent NAS servers.

Re-installing every 6 months or so (180 days for new evaluation) isn't a mega pain any more.

The only issue I have is that Macrium won't install on a Server without the license for Server version -- the stand alone recovery version will without a problem - Office also installs without issue.

Cheers
jimbo
