Laptop Refuses to Wake Up From Sleep. But Identical Unit does Wake up.

If you open Device Manager and then check the Power Management tab for all the HID devices, is there any which haven't been set to allow the system to wake the computer from sleep?

Is this the correct section? If so, there are several devices with that unchecked but it is NOT an option to check it. I tried unchecking the currently checked box "Allow the computer to turn off this device" but that does not let me enable the other box either. Its still greyed out.

Not sure if these listed devices are supposed to be able to anyways though idk

You won't be able to enable them from Device Manager because they're being read from a protected registry subkey, however, you should be able to compare those values to those on the working machine since they're both identical to each other.

I doubt there will be any discrepancies between the two, but thought it might be worthwhile checking to eliminate there being any chance of a simple configuration issue.

Oh okay. I Do not have the original laptop anymore I had to return that and I'm currently using the replacement unit. So I won't be able to test that 8(.

Im planning on returning this unit for a free replacement, since I just found out Im still within the return windows (the 30 days reset with the new unit). Im very curious about trying to reset the EC, That could be all that is needed, idk. But Id have to pop off the back and take out the battery then plug it back in with just the power cord without the battery in it to reset the ec according to Lenovo.

That's probably the best option to take the moment, I'm curious as to which controller it is referring to, because I've read some mixed comments about it in regards to Lenovo laptops. Some users who had the same message in their event logs said it could be related to the fans.

You might as well give it a go.

Oh, is there more than one embedded controller in a laptop? I thought it was just one piece of hardware or something called embedded controller.

All right update, I tried it. Laptop still will not wake from sleep.....
And after breaking 2 of the plastic lid clips in the process lol. (Despite watching several disassembly videos first and being super super careful, that was what I was afraid of. Removing the lid was a nightmare)

I followed the technicians instructions (see below link that's my post) but the laptop does not turn on when connected to power with the battery disconnected. So it doesn't exactly work like his instructions but either way I did disconnect the battery.

ANYWAYS, I'm going to reinstall Windows 11 before I return it just for the hell of it cuz I'm very curious what the heck is going on, this is a brand new laptop and there's no other power issues or I/o issues. so if the EC is bad, you would think it would not wake up from hibernate, but hibernate works fine.

Hmm, that is strange, usually hibernation is more of an issue than sleep is. Just be careful with how much troubleshooting you do if the device is still under warranty.

Yeah, And that's partly why I'm thinking it's something I changed in group policy editor, which resetting default power plan options would not resolve, or don't think would.

So I did the windows reset while keeping personal files and apps, and..... sleep is now working normally!

So it was a Windows 11 problem the entire time. The EC is not bad.
Strange any ideas what it would have been? I reset so much stuff manually prior, and had run tune up software, nothing worked until the reset.

Honestly, can't say for certain but it was probably a device configuration setting somewhere, I'm glad it seems to be working okay now though.

There was < 1 day of data.

In that short observation period the logs were unremarkable.

Oh I thought you were looking for logs of what it might have changed from the system reset, versus new issues that might pop up in the next few days.

Unfortunately I had to return it yesterday at UPS (Sat was my last day), I had already created a replacement request last week after all my prior fix attempts. So I wasn't able to run it for a few more days. And Lenovo had already sent out a new unit, couldn't cancel it....
