I hope I'm wrong but a screw that small I don't see it happening. Using a drill might take off the head of the screw so she can get the drive out.

You’d be surprised with the drill bits you can buy. Very thin drill bits and a bit that locks in and removes a screw thread in reverse drill.
It is of course, precision surgery.

There is very possibly no head, still. Drilling into the thread shaft is possible..

It hasn't come off no, it's just mangled and there's no groove for a screwdriver. Additionally it seems welded in and aint budging. I had got the dremel to "drill" a new groove - as per a youtube tutorial. But have gone off the idea - part of me wants to do it! But it looks very messy and tedious with all the goggles and plastic etc.

I’d probably try a damaged screw extractor bit first.
This is a good one.

Do you have a close up pic of the damaged screw?

The reason I ask, is that you can also remove damaged screws with Vise Grips, assuming there's any edge to the screw head at all. Best of all, no metal filings.

This is a tiny 3/16" screw held in 10" Vise Grips.
The Vise Grips in the pic, hold so tight... I could crush that screw head.
They also make needle nose Vise Grips.

Just make sure you get the ones made by... IRWIN.

You should be able to get that out with Vise Grips. :-)

It looks like it might be some kind of aluminum alloy. So be careful not to crush the screw with the Vise Grips.

I don't know 🤣 - is that my photo? I remember you saying about the grips before. I just put the whole thing on backburner last year due to health issues - now I can't face it again! It was very frustrating. I reckon half the reason it got like that probably (before I had it but I probably made it worse), is the fact it literally seems glued into the motherboard - rock solid in there.

thats why i was asking for a pic before. if thats all it is.. use a torx bit. it will bite... just needs a little pressure to sink into the opening and the teeth will latch.

Dont slip with those vice grips, cause some damage. I’d much sooner use the bits built for the job. But if it’s worth a shot, take it.
My wife uses vice grips on me.

Ok so back to square one with my main laptop 😊. The one that sounded like it was going to explode, stopped shutting down and then righted itself. I splashed a bit of drink on it tonight so am currently surrounded by three non working laptops! Good job I ordered that identical replacement - it’ll be here tomorrow - fingers crossed it’s ok!

My main one still turns on but is typing gobbledegook. 6 random letters for every key stroke - so I’ve left it turned off in the hope that drying out might right it.

I am currently left with just a phone! I hate typing on a phone. So I got my old netbook out and put windows 10 back on it. It’s really weird - I couldn’t remember how to use Windows 10 - took me ages to work out how to find Windows updates 😂

Main thing is I can log back into my Firefox account on it which has all my saved passwords and bookmarks. Ie my brain!

how much is a "bit of drink"? have you looked for any missing Capacitors/Transistors on the MB yet? Are you sure the ribbon cable to the keyboard isn't loose/misaligned from dropping it (that'll cause havoc on laptops)?

only asking questions to assist. unless you're content with replacing it...
