I dont remember when i started using Raid.. i just remember it was on my first real server that had hardware raid. and i stuck to hardware up until half of 2023 when i put in Alma Linux on my server.. and had learned a few years earlier that ZFS is superior as you also have bit-rot protection etc and also with hardware raid you often is tied to that model you have if you have a hardware failure.. while software raid you just take a new machine and put in the diskpool in. :-)
So i was a slow adopter on the server side even i started with Linux in 2018.. it took until mid 2023 before i switched OS on my server.
