    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

cellphone data connection is safer then wifi hotspot connections.
But when using HTTPS everywhere there is no risk for a man in the middle attack to steal data. Just be sure the connection never downgrade to HTTP from HTTPS. :-)

Since they have to keep their cellphone towers working and other infrastructure.. They have to replace the copper wires with something.

That is the sticker for the Intel® Celeron® Processor N Series - Gemini Lake. Mine is the N4120 from Q4'19.
Not the fastest CPU out of the block, but it is a supported one for Windows 11.

We survived the time change. It appears in 1974-1975 the US tried permanent Daylight savings and repealed it even before the 16 month test period was completed.


I'm on cable internet. Pay for 500Mbps and get 900Mbps down and 240Mbps up. Generally in my area if you have any issue with telephone copper they will not repair it and force you onto fibre. Our telephone and cable companies offer a complete package, cell, TV, home phone and Internet. You really have to be on your toes or they will over charge you.

Our telephone and cable companies offer a complete package, cell, TV, home phone and Internet. You really have to be on your toes or they will over charge you.

When I switched to FTTP I paid a small extra monthly fee to get VoIP too, so that I could keep my landline number.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

Afternoon Bree. The home phone wasn't worth it for me, just duct cleaners and scammers. Already get enough of those on our cells.

The copper phone lines in Canada cost so much, and given that fact that most people have cells, most are just dropping. Then they get either fibre or upgraded cable and the companies try to talk them into what I consider an expense VoIP solution.

For sure the pricing and the fact they don't repair have people abandoning copper.

That is the sticker for the Intel® Celeron® Processor N Series - Gemini Lake. Mine is the N4120 from Q4'19.
Not the fastest CPU out of the block, but it is a supported one for Windows 11.

I have one laptop with the N series just 2 meters from me.. it has XP on it and the ransomware WannaCry is on that laptop.
That one has three files i didn't have backup on, so i kept it as is while waiting for the decrypt key to popup on Interpools website... and i have forgot to look the last 5 years. *LOL*
Perhaps i should try to find time to look into it. :-)

Don't use the land line much, mostly I make my calls on my mobile (cell) phone.
But I've lost track of which of my important contacts may only have my land line number I kept it just in case.

Yes I was concerned about that when we dropped landline. Not much different than moving in the old days, you could only redirect so long. I went through the most important contacts and ensured they had my cell. Strange though, my home number keeps popping up in profiles and I keep deleting it. Haven't had a landline in seven years, like a game of whack a mole.
