@WXC Maybe Jays are not in US as a lot of your species are different to ours even if they have the same name. Our most colorful corvid is the magpie, black and white with a lovely blue sheen to it's tail, very common here but they likes to keep their distance and I have never photographed one

We have an Easter egg trail in the woods where people paint cutouts in wood egg shaped and paint them, there are a 130 for kids to find and add their own, so the woods are busy so not much wildlife about
