I installed my water filters and softener system about 30 years ago now. Just calls for regular check ups and maintenance.
Hard water is not good for a few things ...like your hot water tank for one. My water tests always comes out with a great result, only issue is the hard water part. Only need to change the filter about every 6 months. I do that myself. Filter cost me about 20 bucks for two, and I only use 1.

@OldMike65 BTW we don't have a water tank, for hot water we have a combi, it is heated as we want it, they used to be a real problem years ago as the couldn't heat as quick as we were using it but nowadays they are brilliant, doesn't half cut our gas bill

Yes Rod, I think I know what you mean, there are a lot newer models than the one I have now. Which are more efficient than my existing one. So when this one starts to wear out, I'll upgrade it to a better model.

My water filter is located right where my well water comes in, and not needed anywhere else in the house. Also easy to change.

Just one little thing coming into play here in the U.S.. Believe it or not, I read last week where some left congressperson, is pushing a bill that would eliminate the sale/use of natural gas units of any kind.

Yep, it's just crazy. My home has two heat pumps, and I can personally vouch for what you're saying.

The real kicker here, is that they want to totally eliminate fossil fuels, but at the same time are against nuclear power plants, as well.

Jesus! I think the whole damn world has gone mad. :confused:
