After supper I set up my xcopy command to back up all the images I made last night to a 2nd HDD. I left it running while I went out to do my monthly food shop at my local supermaket - remarkably quiet after 9:00pm, virtually had the whole place to myself ;)

The copying was still running when I got home, in fact it's still running now. Even at usb3 speeds it takes a long time to copy 1TB of data....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

last month's bill was $41 for the same month last year it was $125 I do not have the whole house off-grid and do not plan to do that at this time. I do plan to put some more stuff off-grid like the icebox and freezer which are still on the grid as I plan to put up 30 more panels this fall when it cools off more working on a hot tin roof is not my cup of tea. More panels will give me more cushion for the bad sunny days that I get in winter. I went with off-grid because of bad storms that can knock out power for several days.
If Bob does not get many long power outages it would be more cost-efficient to go with an on-grid system because Batteries are more expensive than panels and are not needed with an off-grid system.

I have 36 panels and will be putting up 30 more the panels that I have are only 195 watts the newer panels are 300+ watts so his 20 panels can more than equal what my setup would be right now at 7KW.

I have 12 batteries that will give me 55KWH of stored power at present during the night I use 15KWH and the panels recharge them by 2 PM on a good sunny day.
