Of course, my new USB-C port I installed seemed to have killed my 2TB external SSD I use for backups. Ugh. My wife was sympathetic. She even agreed to allow me to purchase a new one.

Well, I, with the blessing of my wife, bought a SK Hynix 2TB drive and a Sebrent enclosure just now. Nothing like having to buy something you already have... 😐

After yesterday and me doing something to my system that left it unbootable and the backup drive not reading for some odd reason so I could restore the OS from backup, I finally got my system running by putting my old Windows SSD back into my system, cloning it to my new SSD again, and going from there. Well, I thought this morning, "What if I couldn't get it to work at all. I'd have to reinstall the OS." This would mean losing my Downloads folder, which would mean I'd lose all my software install files.

So, this morning, I've been working on changing the target drive for my Downloads and Documents folder to a totally different SSD in case I have to reinstall the OS from scratch. This way, I won't lose those valuable files. Something to think about if you don't already do it...

Good morning, WXC!
Fortunately, I saved that original OS. Otherwise, I might still be working on my system. I was trying to correct that USB-C issue reading my disk at a snail's pace and did something I shouldn't have when things went sideways. I think I'll leave well enough alone! But hey, you live you learn! Interestingly, restoring to the older OS fixed the issue for the most part. So, I guess all wasn't for naught.

I'm finding a backup drive for things is essential, as my woes of yesterday have indicated. I just installed CrystalDiskInfo, which is free as you might know. It provides you a general thumbnail of the health status of your drives. Not a bad tool to have, really. Does Marcrium allow you to restore a backup from a physical boot drive installed in your system? I used to use Acronis backup utility that wouldn't allow you to do that, so I switched to Macrium. Acronis might have allowed for it, and I might have been doing something wrong. All I know is that it was quite frustrating. That's worth asking about if you don't know.

I love the cat carriers. Violet will love her pink carrier, no doubt!
