I got up this morning and turned on a spare system running Win10 and a RX 5700XT and got notified of the latest update and it seemed to update without issue. However later in the day I turned on another system running Win 11 and a RX 6950 XT and went to update but the update is not showing up. I went to AMD and the latest driver is showing up there so still available. I had read an article today about this new update causing some boot problems for some. This made me wonder if AMD has turned off the latest update if using the built in update within the driver itself?

I so hate those panicky headlines and reports. practically a click-bite. Something happens to some in some cases in some PCs and that sounds like some endemic and systematic problem and then it turns out to be only a pair of examples. Panics the heck of everybody. They seem to always come from some niche sites and forums but rarely reputable ones. Read those reports posted in above places and the ones that had windows restart or needing total reinstall are troubling but they dot say how they installed drivers and which shape their windows were. I had 0 problems updating drivers or with windows. First, windows are in good shape, I followed defaults in driver that suggested clean driver installation with default settings. Only change in Windows is disabled automatic driver update. That may be a cause why some experienced starting problems, When graphic driver is uninstalled that requires windows restart and upon restart windows would try to install some driver from MS data base which may not be exactly 100% compatible with particular GPU or happen at same time as new driver is being installed resulting in a mess
All told, my installation went flawlessly all games work fine and with better performance. No complaints so far.

Thanks for heads up on the Neowin piece. I must add I haven't had this issue myself.

I read the PC World article Neowin mentions. It looks like Windows Update is jumping in and install Radeon drivers. One way to possibly avoid this happening is to disconnect the PC from the internet while the driver installs and the reboot is underway so that WU cannot run in silent mode and change the drivers in any way.
I did this a couple of weeks ago when I switched from my old Nvidia card to an AMD Radeon. I used DDU (Windows in safe mode) to clean out the old Geforce drivers, and disconnected the internet until the new AMD drivers were installed and working.

I read the PC World article Neowin mentions. It looks like Windows Update is jumping in and install Radeon drivers. One way to possibly avoid this happening is to disconnect the PC from the internet while the driver installs and the reboot is underway so that WU cannot run in silent mode and change the drivers in any way.
I did this a couple of weeks ago when I switched from my old Nvidia card to an AMD Radeon. I used DDU (Windows in safe mode) to clean out the old Geforce drivers, and disconnected the internet until the new AMD drivers were installed and working.

DDU has an option to prevent MS drivers to be installed upon reboot.

I've had an issue where I was/am questioning if my GPU (Radeon VII) Is bad. After reading this, now I'm not so sure, and especially since I moved GPU to my backup system where it never crashed or locked up.

Using the latest drivers now seems to have alleviated the issue, though I'm still testing stuff to determine if the GPU Is in fact bad.
