Firefox Release Candidate version 149.0

I downloaded latest stable Firefox, version 148.0.2 and installed it on a virtual machine. I then played a video and switched to full screen without issues. My next test before I upgrade was to download the portable version and run it on my main PC (see 2nd system specs). It player the video fine in a window, but crashed when I clicked on the [] button to switch to full screen. This is exactly my issue with any version newer than 144.0.2 Since the portable version has the default settings and no addons, it must be something wrong with the graphics driver. I use nVidia Forceware 591.74 Studio version. I just checked and there is a newer version 595.79. I will update to that and see if the issue is fixed. Anyone having the same issue and knows a solution, please post.

PS: Updating the graphics drivers did nothing. Also disabling hardware acceleration made no difference. Latest Firefox version still crashes if I try to switch the browser to full screen. I will keep my old version until is no longer functional and if the issue persists, I might switch to R3DFOX fork or abandon Firefox entirely. If you know what changed after version 144 that makes Firefox crash in full screen, please post. If you know how to fix it, please share!

PS2: I downloaded R3DFOX 148.0.2 portable to check, success! It doesn't crash when switching the browser to full screen mode, both at any site and when playing a video. So Mozilla made some change in Firefox 145 and newer that affected compatibility. What was that? How to undo this change? Thanks!

SOLUTION: Thanks to Google AI, I found that there is a new flag in version 145 and newer that didn't exist in older version. Type about:config to the URL and then search for the flag widget.windows.windowsappsdk.enabled The default value is true, switch it to false and restart Firefox! Success! It can now switch full screen both in any tab and when watching a video without crashing! I informed Google AI about the solution to help others with the same issue. It said that Windows Apps SDK cannot calculate the screen limits of my second monitor because it is different resolution from the primary (primary 1440x900, secondary 1920x1080) and crashes. Disabling Windows Apps SDK, we return to the old way of drawing the screen which is immune to such issues. Mozilla Devs, next time you introduce a new "feature", please let the users know what it is and how to disable it if they have compatibility issues.

I am using 149.0 but not the VPN.

I successfully downloaded Firefox 149. However, their "Free VPN" button does not appear on the address bar. So, am I missing something?

You have to click on The GET VPN Button.

From The Config. The VPN is hidden till you turn it on

I loaded Firefox 148.0.2, checked for updates but didn't offer 149, it said it is up to date.

that is because its via the FTP server till usually the next day.

OK, I am not in a hurry. I can wait. Besides, I don't notice any difference between versions. Probably I don't use the newer features.

It always seems to take them a day to produce the release notes, only then will the update download.

I hope upgrading to a newer version will keep my settings and won't undo the full screen workaround. In any case I will do it again, see post #1465.
