I found the solution to this problem.

Apparently, on some systems, when you open:
about:config
the following setting is changed to false from the default of true
dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled

clicking on reset which changed it back to true fixed the issue.

I've been using Firefox for decades except for the short period of time when FF became super bloated and slow. My primary reason is I love the menu bar and am not all that fond of browsers that don't have one. Yeah, in this instance I'm old fashioned........
Never use the beta versions though, not interested in beta versions of anything.
