Solved Latest Macrium Reflect 8 updates

I noticed Microsoft has updated the expire date to 10/17/2026
According to a recent update thread on the Secure Boot Objects GitHub, MS deliberately rotates through a series of one-year "leaf" certs to sign the boot manager. And this particular one will be the last in that series, since they can't generate another past the Oct 2026 deadline.

@hughsie that looks to be intended. Our leaf certificates recently rotated for this CA - they both chain to the Microsoft Corporation KEK CA 2011.

20250902 - signed by certificate thumbprint 2c181a475fb7e3d83a742d69b543d14ba0ac38ae
20260402 - signed by certificate thumbprint b514f92b4ba43b894f8c1aca9fe6a3ed4007bba8 (valid 3/12/2026 - 6/23/2026) <-- this will be the last leaf certificate for the KEK CA 2011

After that, presumably they'll switch a new round of one-year certs after October.

From these results, you haven't revoked the PCA 2011 cert. Any boot file version is eligible.

When you revoke the CA 2011, the same binary file includes a starting SVN of 2.0 or 5.0. Since yours is (none), it implies your UEFI doesn't have PCA 2011 in the DBX. The Secure boot task has updated your EFI's boot manager to the latest version, but there is no SVN enforcement.

As soon as PCA 2011 is revoked, you may have to rebuild the recovery drive (depending on how long ago it was created).

Bugger me... not to offend the Macrium lovers with my vulgarity, but OMFG Stupid Bloody Macrium!!!
Late July 2025 my computer stopped booting – I asked for help here – no response. Restoring back to any backup over the prior 30+ days of incrementals, differentials and full backups ALL FAILED. Blue Screen BSOD again and again. After 2 months and purchasing numerous recovery tools, I gave up....

This week, I managed to recover my PC. What did I do differently? I clicked Disable RDR Delta. WTF guys!? If so sensitive and so problematic, why on earth is RDR enabled by default on boot discs or within the app?? Back to 2nd June 2025 as July backups all were BSODs.

Macrium, you owe me compensation for eye strain from 11 months of using a cheap 12" Ali Express client 'loan' notebook. 😋

@Flipmode, I consider this a very unfair rant (and I'm not even a Macrium fanboi). A user of a product needs to know how a product functions... that's called due diligence.

A quick lesson... RDR does not mess with disk blocks that have not been changed by the operating System. Why... because it saves a massive amount of RESTORE time when returning an image to the System. If the contents of a disk block has changed without the operating System's knowledge (your device, your problem, I believe) then there's no way REFLECT or any other application can know that without comparing every single bit on the disk block with its reference image... nobody does that except AX64 (now defunct) and Image For Windows (feature not used very much anymore). If you understood how RDR worked, the first thing you would have tried would have been a non-RDR FULL restore (re-write everything, including all unchanged disk blocks... takes longer but usually eliminates these types of issues. As you found out, it solved your immediate problem (but surely not your longer term issue).

What you described as an issue is, in my eyes, a storage device beginning a longer term failure scenario... better be ready. Normally, the storage device itself would flag, to the OS, this type of DATA failure (based on internal DATA error detection/correction codes)... in your case, it did not, something else to worry about with that SOURCE storage device.

Be gentle with your application developers... :-)

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I switched from Macrium 8 Free to Hasleo Free and it works with no issues. While using Macrium it worked fine until I had bad memory modules corrupt the data in my Back Up files and ended up with a fresh install of W11 Pro. I was able to disable Secure Boot and browse the corrupt the Macrium images to retrieve important files I wanted. It is best to have Back up files not connected to your computer and to have more than one copy.

That's what I was implying by saying it's all gone quiet. Can't help wondering what the fate of LTSC 2024 will be though.....

I don't really need to mount images, and on the off-chance that I ever do I have a couple of machines on Reflect X for that.

I made an inquiry of any LTSC users on Macrium's Forum a while back... crickets, so I have no idea whether they've ever been dealt with or even how many LTSC users there may be. It might just be a "ghost" community...

Thanks mate. Appreciate the response. I have had no issues with the system since restoring to 2nd June. Cannot restore to full on 18th June, or any backup to 24th July. But.... perhaps I can now? I didn't think about that and unfortunately have been thrashing the PC and enjoying the luxury of speed after a Celeron N5095 :P
I could backup and then test a more recent restore to the disk w & w/o RDR. See if it now works, given those corruptions / BSODs.
Have had no blue screens, no crashes, nothing for ~6 days it's been up and running. Been holding off on doing all the Windows updates :P

FYI. FWIW, It is actually the developer's responsibility to communicate and explain said functionality and its effects. I think most people won't know or understand the granular difference of Restore vs Delta Restore - I don't! This is an area MR is NOT strong at. Various menus, settings, etc being counter-intuitive.
Sorry mate, but the ONLY change between performing a restore was the chckbox > Advanced Options > Disable "Enable RDR" then execute restore. The processing time to restore was neglible given 77GB MRIMG of data on a 250GB partition. Ironically, the other OS and boot partitions were left untouched. So believe it not not, but RDR absolutely was preventing restore.

I wish GFI Backup would come back! I used to sell and deploy GFI backup v3/v4 left right and centre ~2008 onwards. I highly recommend trying it out on a VM or live. Brilliant concept, plus all web based and full remote management and deploying of clients / adjusting repo's / data pool / schedules / exclusions etc. Was life-changing, just like Retrospect Backup in early 2000s. 👍

@Flipmode, I consider this a very unfair rant (and I'm not even a Macrium fanboi). A user of a product needs to know how a product functions... that's called due diligence.

@Flipmode - since your LIVE Failure to BOOT occurred in Late July, that's probabaly when the errored disk block went south. I would restore the next earlier image, with RDR turned off, to see if you have the same stability as you do now. If so great... I think:cautious: You still need to find out why the resident disk DATA went south on you without either your or Windows knowledge... I'd still worry about that source disk. A fluke... maybe, but it just may happen again.

Good luck!

PS- is that source disk an HDD or a SSD?

For most techs, 99% of our workflow is installation, maintenance, and log checking etc. Restore's represent about 1% of our time actually restoring or retrieving data for clients.
Because restoring is so rare (well, until Windows 12, touch wood), "backup" s/w should be designed for the critical 1% moment (restoring), not just the 99% routine (config / monitoring). The interface needs to be completely intuitive in a crisis - especially for SMBs or mid-level techs (me) with a diverse skill set.

It highlights a bigger problem - Macrium should not assume every user is an 'elite special-ops' expert who knows every toggle inside out. 🦹 Currently, the MR UI layout and default behaviour leave significant room for improvement and much to be desired when navigating these primary features and settings!

Just saw your reply. Cheers mate. Not having a rant or whinge. I'll be having an 'objective' rant with MR support! hah
Source was Kingston SKC3000 2TB and Gigabyte AG470S1TB (original SSD). Basic disks & all NTFS. 94% & 96% health.
Delta Restore to 26 July 2025 Diff failed. 7th July Full failed. 18th June Full failed. 2nd June (Diff) failed..
Full's were 02/05, 14/06, 18/06, 07/07. Loads of Diff's and Incr's spanning across that.
When I turned off RDR, I tried a dozen in July, 2 in June= BSOD, Only one to work was differetntial on 02/06. 👍

I agree with this, Hasleo is way easier to use... I just switched some days ago and it even aligns partitions correctly; settings are on sight and intuitive to get to.
V8 was much better because it did things automatically, but... I jumped off the V10 bandwagon after I had to spend days diagnosing and fixing problems with my system from said misalignment.

Hopefuly V8 works nicely in my old W10 Acer Aspire lol
