Had it here on TWO machines on the beta channel both with the same error. I reinstalled M365 on the desktop machine, switched it to the current channel and those updates work fine. Still not working on beta channel on the laptop though.

Have you tried doing a complete uninstall/reinstall?

I had to do this to get it to work on my desktop PC:

1. Completely uninstall MS 365 Apps using Revo Uninstaller PRO full uninstall including registry clean and removing leftover files.
2. Reboot (mandatory)
3. Reinstall MS 365
4. Reboot (optional)
5. From an elevated PowerShell run these commands:
a. cd "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun"
b. .\OfficeC2RClient.exe /changesetting Channel=BetaChannel
3. Reboot (mandatory otherwise the updates won't download and apply).
4. Run Microsoft 365 & Office Updates from inside one of the MS 365 Apps.
