Samsung has released firmware updates for the 990 Pro NVMe drives. However, when I try to install I gat a failed update. Anyone else....

Tried "Update All" and it just takes forever. Tried updating one at a time and they all fail. Restarted the PC, shut down the PC, nothing works.

My 990 Pro 1TB updated fine, but it took 3 times for the 4TB to successfully update.

No luck with my 3x 990Pro 1TB's it just kept spinning around saying its in the process of upgrading the firmware.
After half n hour later still nothing no error or upgrade. Maybe the Samsung Server is having issues downloading the firmware to me down under in Australia.:LOL:

After a first few Failures, 3rd Time it completed fine, then it autoly shutdown system,i waited 2 minutes then reloaded system. And all appears well

Then when my newer 2TB Drive arrives--i know i'll have to update that one first thing once i get the clean install done on first Samsung 990 Pro 1TB if i get it successfully moved to M.2 Slot 1 on my board lol, i think i shouldn't have issues, but guess will see when the other arrives lol.

For now relaxes lol

So I removed Magician with REVO, shut down my PC left it down for a tad. Started backup, reinstalled Magician and it seems that the 7th time was a charm.👍

I have two 4TBs, and one 2TB, and each time I try they fail. So no such luck here. Might try the manual update through USB later on.

I think I will just wait until Samsung sorts the issue out and use Samsung Magician like I have done before in the past.

So, if I understand you correctly, the ISO method didn't work even after you temporarily turned VMD off in UEFI settings?

Yes, it shows my 2 990 Pro drivers, says its updated, reboot and the firmware has not been updated.

Did you re-check what firmware version is reported by the ISO tool? (pic below)

With Intel VMD enabled, all PCI devices behind the VMD controller (e.g. the internal NVMe controller of each SSD) will be invisible to the OS due to the Intel VMD design. It essentially acts as an intermediary. As a result, Samsung Magician might not be able to properly detect the firmware version of the SSDs. Same reason why Samsung Magician cannot update the firmware of the SSDs when VMD is enabled.

It's 2025 and a company like Samsung (worth around a $276.24 billion) - still has some of the worst "Windows" software devs in the whole IT industry. I say Windows, cause their Android dev team is fairly decent - i guess (firmware updates are fairly smooth - working from 1st try / while the updates demand on servers meant for Samsung Smartphones - is probably 10.000x higher than Samsung Magician updates).

I must have been lucky with this one.
The Magician updated my 990 Pro 4TB with heatsink just about 4-5 days ago. Its firmware is now at 6B2QJXD7.
No delays that were obvious during the update, the system restarted, and so far the SSD is working fine.

Make sure your firewall allows outgoing access to samsungmagician.exe, samsungmagiciansvc.exe and filedownloader.exe (all three are in Samsung magician's folder).
