I just read this article over at Techspot and am wondering if it's accurate or not, and if so, what's to be done about it.

Interesting. I have noted a slowdown in my system's local disk transfers of 360GB. And I have that update. Not sure if I should uninstall it or not. I'll wait for more info.

There are various versions of this story, in one on Bleeping Computer it is apparently only affecting Adata SSDs and some Intel wireless chips. Other users on other forums, news sites, report slowdowns on other makes of SSD and wireless chips.
Regardless of all that MS is aware of 'some issues' and is working on a fix.
The SSD slowdown is apparently linked to the cache system Explorer uses, you can get round it if needed by using Xcopy, Robocopy etc.

Enabling this tweak fixes the slowdown

As I can see those settings are already there in Tiny11 my main OS at this time. "I'm Testing On Bare Metal" It would jump from 120MB/S to 560MB/S and back to 120MB/S and even as low as 10MB/S. . The larger the file the slower the transfer. OK. Data is just data and should just be transferred at the same rate right? NO! When it reaches a file that is larger it slows down. This must be down by design. The larger the file the more complex the transfer. I may be completely wrong on this. So correct me pleases.

ok yeah that's not normal. The only thing we can now is to wait for an update from Microsoft who keep destroying Windows with every update.

PS: what is the SSD model you're using?

Just some observations........when copying files are you copying between 2 drives or just folders on the same drive? For years now I have noticed a variation in transfer speeds depending on file/file types being copied. Also when using SSD drives you have to consider the type of Cache being utilized during the transfer operation. Some SSDs have larger DRAM buffers and smaller transfers can happen pretty quickly as long as the DRAM buffer does not get full. You can watch this easily enough yourself during transfers. It is especially noticeable if transferring between SSDs and not to a HDD. I can initiate a large file transfer between SSDs and the initial transfers speeds can be quite high but once the DRAM buffer fills up the speeds taper off somewhat. Also some cheaper SSDs come with NO DRAM buffer. The WD Blue you are using luckily includes a pretty good DRAM cache. However the newer WD Blue 510 models do not. Stay away.

So basically if you're seeing slowdowns you have to consider is it a function of the SSD itself or is it being caused by something MS caused due to an update?

Last week, Microsoft released its Patch Tuesday for the month of March, and with it, the Moment 2 update was also made available to all. The latest feature update, though, maybe slowing down SSDs.

Well I have 3 WD Blue SN570 NVME's (2x1TB, 1x2TB) and 3 SATA SSDs (2x512GB Sandisk, 1x1TB Samsung 870 QVO) and have noticed no slowdowns on any of the drives unless I overload the SLC caches by quite a bit, which is normal for these sort of drives.
It isn't an issue affecting everyone, so it is more than likely a conflict between the latest MS update and particular 3rd party controllers/ firmware/ drivers. Same for the Wifi issues.
There are work arounds such as not using Explorer to transfer files or uninstalling the update until a fix is released.

I dont have any issues at all with this release. I use a Samsung 1TB T7 Shield portable SSD.

Great, one of my SSDs is Adata. I don't transfer much between disks, so I wouldn't recognize a slowdown, though.

Just having an Adata drive doesn't mean you will get the issue, that you will even notice if you have it, or that only Adata is affected.
If you don't usually transfer multi gigabyte files often it might not even be noticeable.
It also may only be an issue with certain controllers, firmware revisions and chipsets as not everyone is experiancing the slowdowns or the Wifi and other issues.

yes. My system is running fine and transferring files from pc to my portable SSD is fine, Internet however not so good. My internet speed seems to have gone down from 1GB connection to 20MB speed. I cannot pin it to any other thing but the latest Windows update. And I honestly do NOT wanna go through the uninstall previous updates only to cause more issues and in the end completely wipe and reinstall windows. So at the moment Ill deal with it.
