Windows 11 KB5031455 Moment 4 update is causing various issues for some users

For those having issues with KB5031455, it might be a good idea to install the 23H2 Enablement Package.
It can be found here...





I think... a lot of these issues with the Moment 4 update, could have been caused by MS breaking 23H2 into two parts.
The actual update and then the Enablement Package.

Like trying to drive a nail with a hammer in two pieces.

Probably I ahould have read this thread before installing the update. It's too late now. I already did (successfully I hope) and my PC is now restarting. Fingers crossed... I will next install the 23H2 enablement package to upgrade my unsupported PC to 23H2. Thanks for sharing anyway.

I guess that I was lucky that it didn't affect my install since that applies to me also.

Thanks God, I installed the update and went to build 22621.2506 without any issues (apart from resetting my custom icons to default).

I didn't have any install issues with KB5031455 or any performance issues after the install. Luck of the draw. The article says to create a restore point before trying the install.... good basic suggestion.

Most of those error codes - are tied to an interrupted or failed Windows Update. Thus, those who were able to install it without issues - shouldn't have those problems. There's not that many complaints of failed update - in the reddit linked in above link:


While the few i found - are rather obscure (lacking any details about the systems involved). Found only 1 system being mentioned (Alienware R13) - who couldn't boot, but solved the issue with a reinstall.

Microsoft's KB5031455 update seems to be causing multiple issues for users including the ability to install the update, not being able to roll it back as well as general performance issues.

I clean installed Windows and I had many issues, but I they were all caused by Smart App, once disabled, all went back to normal.

In Greek we say "Beware of the Danaans carrying gifts" (referring to an ancient Greek tribe that used gifts to trick the enemies), meaning be careful when you see too much bundled stuff.

Interesting. In Standard Western English (UK and US), the idomatic expression is "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts!" It warns us against trusting an enemy, even if that enemy appears to be behaving in a kind and generous manner.

Similarly in Greek we say "It looks like Chinese" and in English you say "It's all Greek to me" when something is difficult to understand. Ironic eh? Thankfully Greek with just 24 characters is far easier to learn than Chinese with over 10000 of them! A literate Chinese must be able to read at least 4000 characters! No way I could learn Chinese. I don't dare even try! No wonder that other people that had borrowed the Chinese alphabet have developed their own writing systems, like the Japanese Hiragana and Katakana and the Korean Hangul.

2023-10 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5031455) - caused blue screen in my case.
I have successfully installed 23H3 and the question is do I still have to install KB5031455? It is pending restart

That's my theory anyway. Once you're ON 23H2... installing KB5031455 should be OK.
Then again... most of us who "try" these things, use backup software.

A Restore Point is a cheap imitation of true backup software.
System Restore "merges" the Restore Point with the current state of Windows.

Backup software completely "overwrites" the current Windows state, with the backup you made previously.









When I installed KB5031455, I was having problems with File Explorer crashing.
I then, installed the Enablement Package, and that fixed the issues I was having.

My "theory" is that Microsoft should stop messing around with this voodoo upgrade-rollout crap, and go back to actually "testing" things before they release them into the wild.

Here's some other things you may find useful...

And for everyone that hasn't done it already, (you know who you are), open up a Command Prompt, and find out what version of Windows you are running, and add that information in your System Specs...

You can also find the version in... Settings > System > About
Or... by typing: winver in the Taskbar search box.



YELLOW box...



The little "diamonds" are optional.

If you have Explorer Patcher ir similar utility, you must also update this to eliminate any issues.

UPD: so it worked out for me, windows downloaded and installed further updates without any issues. Now I can breath out
