Leak of upcoming features for Windows 11


There's an interesting personalization feature coming to Windows 11 - Stickers for your wallpaper.

You'll be able to configure them using a new Sticker Editor app, they'll persist across wallpaper changes as long as you don't use a slideshow, use Fill fit & have only 1 monitor.

System admins will be able to disable these using a policy called Education\AllowStickers. The single monitor and Fill fit limitations are quite strange, hopefully just an early implementation quirk.

Whenever my GF breaks up with me, I come to this forum to stare at those beauties :loveit: (rounded corners/shapes, rounded frames, rounded uploaded SSs) to fill the void of nature curves and real rounded things. My doctor's prescription for my back pain is 11forum-treatment, the corners make it so relaxing.

No joke, I really like that (rounded SSs and frames... of 11forum).

It depends on what you do with your computer -- problem is that currently Windows has to accomodate vastly different sets of users. I don't need loads of games or multi streaming things on an Enterprise OS but Networking that actually works correctly and office apps. On a home computer other things including games etc might be appropriate.

Not an easy one for Ms to solve -- I think if Azure was made cheap enough I wouldn't mind if for Work purposes Windows was 100% delivered and run from the cloud. All the local (work) computer would need would be a micro OS that could connect with the cloud server -- it could be a really tiny "bootstrap" OS like VMWare's ESXi (commercial) OS. Locally of course I'd want a "Standard PC" with all the bells and whistles.

These are all excellent points, jimbo. I think that's what Microsoft is trying to divide and conquer with updates at the same time to utility as well as aesthetics. My main point is that the younger crowd seems to go for glitz, glitter, and ease of use. They want a pretty, stable OS and computer that serves their purpose. Traditionally, Windows have beat out Macs in the gaming industry, but Apple is making strong headway in that arena from what I read on tech news. When (if) they get up to speed with Windows-based machines, Microsoft will have more to worry about.

Still, you're going to have die-hard builders who prefer PCs because you can do just that - build your own with all types of aesthetics such as lights on the MB, RAM, etc. (all useless in my opinion). You can't build a Mac from scratch. So, there will always be this PC niche that will want that ability and appreciate Windows, which is far more tweakable than Mac OS from what I can tell. (Subsequently, it seems to be all those different PC parts, which make building your own system easy, that ultimately make Windows run into errors on many occasions. What MB do you have? What's the CPU? What's the video card and brand? etc...)

Again, my main point is that Apple is quickly gaining footing based on those aesthetics and ease of use.

Snipping tool does rectangular snips, so if snipping a window, you always get part of background. Another reason I dislike rounded corners.

Windows got its popularity due to actual features though. Easy customization, easy programming (VB), hardware support, object COM model, backward compatibility, extensibility by third-party shell extensions, drivers and protocols, easy task scheduling and search, etc. After that it is going with inertia, they remove some featires but there are enthusiasts who fix that with their third-party software.

What I really would want is the return of the feature that the Explorer remembered windows positions. This feature was there since Win95 but was removed in Vista. Now I have to use ShellFolderFix which is long unsupported and works not well. Why they removed this feature, essential for any spatial file manager? I have no idea.

Macs are FAR less popular than Windows. And with this approach of copying Macs Nadella leads Windows to the same market share.

Really? I think Windows since XP had rounded corners and/or mechanism of implementing it. The theming engine in WinXP was much less buggy than in versions since Vista.

For now, but Apple is making a concerted effort to make them more popular. They're already the choice of many K-12 institutions. That's training an entire generation of youth to like and use Macs. And purchase them. Let's not forget that part. I'd say that out of 90 master's students I teach, the majority of them use Macs now. (Sorry, no exact numbers.) That caused me to have to get a Mac from my employer so I could troubleshoot issues they might have when building educational games.

No argument there. I just saw a program, MacPilot, which allows you to customize your MacOS, though, so that might be changing.

I do not know why this may be the case (may be status marker due to higher price), but it is definitely a local, not worldwide phenomenon.
