Solved Lenovo Yoga - No USB-C (including USB-C power port) since BIOS/Firmware update

Hi, I'm in a pickle and I only have until the laptop battery runs out.

Lenovo Vantage did as BIOS/Firmware update and now the device manager is showing issues with the USB Connector Managers/UCM-UCSI ACPI Device

This is the worst part, it's disabled all USB-C ports including the port used to charge the laptop.
This means I can't re-flash the BIOS/Firmware as the laptop wont comply without it being plugged into mains.

• I can't see any other drivers available that may assist
• I tried a chipset driver from 11 Oct 2024 but nothing.
• Uninstalling or trying a driver update in Device Manager did noting, so I sense this is a BIOS issue
• Auto scan offers nothing, neither does Optional Updates
• There is nothing related to USB in the BIOS

It's a Lenovo Yoga 7 14IRL8 - Type 82YL


I' was going to restore a recent system image but unsure if it will drain the battery, I don't know how long a full charge will last with this as it's an older laptop. So I await for any other suggestions.

Restoring a System Image did nothing.
Setting BIOS to defaults did nothing.

In your Device Manager, you have firmware entry. Open properties of firmware and change to driver tab. Then click Update driver. The firmware may be your BIOS as my notebook is. Updating may take place or it may read your firmware is up to date. Worth a try.

Secondly you have USB connector Manager. Did you try to uninstall it then reinstall ?

Your notebook has a setting in uefi bios Always ON USB. Do you still have that setting ? I may suggest you disable and then enable it. The manual does not have all the settings in bios. So I cannot have a look so as to suggest something that may be useful.

Thanks again. Always ON USB is for allowing specific USB ports to charge devices like phones or headphones even when the laptop is powered off, in sleep, or hibernating, by drawing power from the laptop's battery

Did you try?
If you have enough charge you might be able to reflash the older/previous bios version. Most laptops let you reflash when it has more than 35% charge.

But I am guessing by now that you might be in the pickle.

Also I found this:

• Power cycling the laptop resolves the issue temporarily. If the laptop is left off for an extended period, this will also resolve the issue temporarily.

Also with laptops, This usually works to fix weird issues:

1. Shut down the laptop and remove power.
2. Remove all usb devices
3. If the battery is detachable, take it out. If not, open the back of the laptop and disconnect the battery.
4. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds
5. Reinsert the battery and power up

A quick search revealed that your problem is rather common.

CVE-2025-4276 affects UsbCoreDxe, which handles the "handshake" between your laptop and a USB-C device (like a charger or docking station).

Side Effect: If the patch significantly tightens security validation, some third-party (non-OEM) chargers or docks that don't follow strict USB-C protocols might fail to "negotiate" power or data. The port isn't "disabled," but it refuses to talk to that specific device for security reasons.

There have been documented cases (such as with the HP EliteBook G10 series) where a BIOS update addressing similar vulnerabilities accidentally disabled the second USB-C port while keeping the first one active. This is usually fixed by a subsequent "hotfix" update or by toggling the port settings in the Advanced menu of the BIOS.

If you have applied the update and lost functionality, follow these steps in order:

1. Check BIOS Settings: Restart and enter your BIOS. Look under Advanced > Port Options or Security > I/O Port Access. Ensure "USB Type-C" is set to Enabled.
2. Hard Reset: Shut down the laptop, unplug all USB-C devices and the power cable, then hold the Power Button for 30 seconds. This drains the "flea power" from the USB controllers and forces them to re-initialize.

There should be an Advanced/Debug BIOS section (beyond the Default/Basic BIOS). But each model has its specif sequences of key presses - to be able to access it. For example...


From what i could find, there's also other examples - which supposedly work on many 2023–2025 Yoga and Legion models. It requires you to "input" the unlock code while the laptop is powered off but in a "waiting" state.

1. Shut down the laptop completely.
2. Tap the Power button once (the screen should stay black, but the keyboard might light up).
3. Immediately and quickly type the following sequence in order (think of it like sliding your fingers down the columns of the keyboard):
   • F1 → 1 → Q → A → Z
   • F2 → 2 → W → S → X
   • F3 → 3 → E → D → C
   • F4 → 4 → R → F → V
   • F5 → 5 → T → G → B
   • F6 → 6 → Y → H → N
4. After finishing the sequence, press the Power button again and immediately spam F2 to enter the BIOS.

In some firmware versions, a new setting called "USB Type-C Ports" or "USB Restricted Mode" may appear. If the update resets your BIOS to factory defaults, this setting might be set to Disabled. And in some cases this can be enabled only from Advanced/Debug mode. Thus, why Lenovo - releases a hotfix latter on - to solve this automatically. This BIOS update was released in 17 Dec 2025, so maybe they're preparing a auto-fix if reported. Did you contact their support - about this issues caused by their recent BIOS update?

I appreciate the time you took with that post, I certainly didn’t find any of that info so, impressive.
There were none of those settings in the BIOS.

What did fix it and I don’t know how, because I witnessed no “Self Healing” after enabling this and rebooted after the change, and I don’t understand how it’s fixed this… but all USB-C ports working again:

System will backup BIOS firmware and will self-healed from BIOS crash.
[Disabled]
System clear the backup BIOS firmware and do not self-healed when crash.

I am glad you sorted out your problem.

There are sevenYoga models in the Lenovo support article. That’s why I sent it. Your Yoga may be differnt.

Anyway, nice to hear your notebook is up and running. This will be a nice tutorial for those experiencing the same issue.

Ten minutes after creating this thread, I got online and bought a new Laptop. I need one to travel. Little did I know… I thought I bricked the one in question.

That's Lenovo's BIOS recovery feature (automatic firmware protection and recovery). If corrupted or doesn't pass the main BIOS check test - it restores its backed-up version. Is your current BIOS version - shown as the latest (you applied with latest update) or older?

Maybe it was sometime else that repaired the issue?
I am a bit funny about peoples advice, I don’t apply all the suggestions and hope for the best, I try one at a time and reboot each time. Meaning I rebooted quite a bit, but the next mornings reboot showed it as fixed.

Yeah, probably being turned-off for so long - registered as a hard reset (draining the "flea power" from the USB controllers and forcing them to re-initialize).

I used to hear this from every teacher I’ve ever had. My answers got more cryptic and nonsensical every year. I think I’ve said “your MOM” once or twice, also.

But no, I didn’t get to try. As neves said, it could have happened anyway as a result of me being clueless
