Lenovo Yoga with new SSD, Clean Win11 install is SLOOOOOOW!!

Check the temperature of your SSD. It's probably NOT a problem with the windows install.

None. Manully configured so nobody except me can change any critical system files. (Don't ask how, it's probably against some rule somewhere)
Could also be thermal problem, check CPU temps, fan, paste, heatsink.

Problem SOLVED: are you ready for this? I had ordered a replacement battery early on since it would only "charge to 42%" at most and, when unplugged, would immediately power down. So it was only running when plugged in. After swapping in the new battery, it booted quickly, programs opened quickly, and new apps are installing quickly.

I was surprised that, even with the correct charger plugged in, that the bad battery might slow the system down. I have run some laptops with the battery removed and they seem fine, just not untethered.

Thanks to all for responding.

Ah. I have seen that before. Had a editor whose battery degraded really quickly, but it didn't matter as they mostly used it as a desktop. It was fine for awhile but then it started slowing down out of nowhere, and once the battery was replaced it was back to full speed. Battery was not swollen or anything, just low health. I don't really understand how that works either. Guessing heat but temps were fine on the machine for the ssd and processor. And it slowed down even when plugged in, which should have made the power requirement argument useless.

If someone else knows I would love an explanation.

Glad you figured it out!

Not saying this is what happened with that machine, because obviously I wouldn't know, but if the battery is unhealthy and causing heat in some way, a laptop will lower performance to lower heat, to defend itself.

Thanks. yeah back then I had run the built in stress tests from hp and the temps stayed normal. I never figured out why it did it.
🤷‍♂️

Makes sense, slow down performance to keep the temps normal while compensating for a hot battery. Just speculating of course.

please do a CHKDSK on the SSD which will require you to reboot your system
after you have entered these commands into a Administrator Command prompt.

please follow the instructions carefully then reboot the system
for CHKDSK to perform its checks and repairs.

best of luck Steve ..

Just saw this. Steve, I put a NEW SSD in before replacing the battery. Once the battery was replaced, the unit perfomed as expected, Windows installed promptly (under 5 minutes), so I don't see any need to do any CHKDSK. I mean, why?
