Hello,

Ever since I can remember, my laptop does the following. The computer boots up quickly, but it takes about 5-10 seconds after signing in to go to the desktop. Also, when I sign in, the screen flashes black for a second and then I can see my desktop. It only does this when signing in.

The laptop was purchased new and originally had windows 10. It did this even then.

What could be the cause and what is the solution? I appreciate it. Thank you.

Just a wild guess but I have seen this behavior, even between switching apps, due to using windows dark theme or a third party program that alters the gui in any way. Take a look in task manager and task scheduler for start ups, Disable all non essential processes you find and reboot. If it stops, add them back one at a time to see which one may be causing it. There are a lot of possibilities here, even a display driver or an external device, which would be next on my list. Disconnect them all. Look for and install any updated drivers\bios from the manufacturer ONLY.
