Looking for explanation that caused big scare: Black screen/Cancel transfers?

Latest updated Windows 11.

Although things seemed to have self-corrected after re-starting, I still would appreciate knowing what caused the following:

There was an app icon (looked like a file explorer icon) on my taskbar that just wouldn't close. Every time I tried closing it, I'd get a "Progress" drop down that asked if I wanted to cancel (Yes/No) all transfers. I would select yes, but the icon didn't budge off the taskbar...same if I selected No, and it was looping between the Progress drop down and and my selecting to close the app. I think the transfers it was referring to were the movement of some photo files that I had done earlier??? Anyway, in Task Mgr I ended a task that had to do with file explorer (don't remember its exact name,) the monitor screen turned all black and the only response that I would get was from Alt+Ctrl+Del. I did go to the Task Mgr and stuff was still running, although something related to "Lock" was suspended. I manually shut the computer down and restarted it. I got my greeting and put in my PIN, and then the all black screen again. I then did Alt+Ctrl+Del, but this time I manually chose to restart via the shutdown/restart/sleep icon in the lower right hand corner, and things are now working as they usually do. That's the story...

Without actually seeing it, I couldn't say what it was and would normally say since a restart got you back normal to not worry about it. However, your statement Every time I tried closing it, I'd get a "Progress" drop down that asked if I wanted to cancel (Yes/No) all transfers. is a little troublesome. When it refers to transfers it means sending or receiving data. Do you use cloud storage? Were you uploading files? Were you downloading files?
If the answer is no to all these questions, just to be on the safe side, download, install, and run Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes Cybersecurity for Home and Business | Anti-Malware & Antivirus
It will scan your computer. Quarantine any items it finds.

Note-this will install the 14 day free trial of Premium MWB. After 14 days it will automatically revert back to the free version. You can uninstall it, but my suggestion is to keep the free version and use it to manually scan your computer every month or so to keep your computer clean.

If I remember correctly, I had uploaded some photos I just took and may have interrupted the process...but not sure. Ran MWB, no issues found.

If you check you will probably find that not all your photos uploaded to wherever you were uploading them to because you interrupted the process.

Yeah, I figured that I may have interrupted the process; but, luckily, I think all pic are where they should be. But I'm still wondering just what was going on...
