Solved Lost Window Burn disk app.

I have noticed that when searching for help many times in Windows 10 the answer looks like it is from another operating system.
This afternoon I decided to try burning a USB thumbdrive with Windows 11. The info said to right-click on the .ISO file and then "Show More Options" then click on "Burn Disk Image"

Why don't I have "mount" and Burn Disk Image" and how do I get them or whatever succeed them in show more options?

You cannot burn ISO image to USB flash drive burning is done on DVD/CD.

You need to use RUFUS for USB sticks...

Correct, the .iso image file is used by a disc burning program and creates an exact copy of the original disc or file when first created. The 'burning' comes from the use of Laser technology.

I've never had to use Rufus to create the bootable USB Thumb drive but have never had issues using the MCT/Media Creation Tool by Microsoft to do it [which is actually writing writing of data].

Others have already commented on "burn".

In my Windows 11, if I open the context menu (right click) on an ISO, I get a "mount" option. I have my context menu set so that I get the whole set on a single click, rather than having to click again to open a second window.

I don't normally use the "mount" option anyway. If I double click an ISO, it mounts (as a virtual DVD).

I normally use no special tools to create a bootable USB drive. With modern UEFI motherboards, I've found it sufficient to just have the drive formatted as FAT32/MBR. For a bootable Windows installation thumb drive, I just mount the ISO, and copy the contents over. (I may have to split install.wim if it's larger than 4GB. I use the DISM tool for that.)

Further comment, the USB Thumb drive has to be larger than 4GB, I use 8GB, and the DVD+R disc has to be DL/Dual Layer which is larger than the usual 4.7GB at 8.2GB but harder to find in local stores.

Media Creation Tool was mentioned. Do you have a decent internet connection?
Download it from Microsoft, have a USB at least 8GB as Berton mentions, plugged into your PC.
Run MCT (Media Creation Tool) and follow the simple prompts.

Back in the early days of Windows 10, MS had a tool you could download called Windows 7 DVD tool. One could either burn a DVD of make a USB bootable stick from an iso, but now, that's done in the MCT after downloading the iso.. Was able to burn a DVD, but now need a double-layer DVD for later versions of Windows 10 and Widows 11. You'll need at least an 8 GB usb stick to make a windows setup usb.

I still have an optical drive on 2 of my 3 systems, but hardly use them anymore. Rufus is a good tool to use my make a usb stick from iso's
