I have Mozilla Thunderbird installed and showing in the installed apps list. I want to use Thunderbird as the default app for MAILTO links. When I try to set a default for this link Thunderbird is not listed! Just 'Mail'. I would expect to be able to directly select Thunderbird's exe but that doesn't seem possible. The only options are the listed apps which don't include Thunderbird or "Browse apps in the Microsoft Store".

Thanks for that suggestion but it doesn't seem to be the answer in Win 11, that was for Win 10. But a good thought to use the Mozilla forum, I've now asked the same question there. Thanks.

Close Thunderbird, then run it as admin - Settings - Always check - Check Now - Set Default for Email.
Afterwards it should get registered within Windows, even portable version, so you can set it as mailto.

Not sure I fully understand. Opening the TB exe as Admin is no problem. After that there is no Settings option/tab in TB 60.9.1 (I know it's an older version but I need for a very specific reason). There is Tools - Options but that doesn't seem to lead to what you're saying. If it would have helped "View attachment 92095" give an error that page doesn't exist.

Have you considered that the add-on has since been updated to work with later versions of TB? Look to see if it has been updated. You may be hanging on to the old TB unnecessarily.

No, it's not been updated and the developer has confirmed it never will be. There is no alternative to do the same job, I keep looking! If you're curious I have 100's of email addresses! I have my own domain and everyone gets a unique email address eg elevenforum@, amazon@ etc. so if I start to get spam to any address and they wont desist when asked I simply refuse all mail to that one address. When replying to an email the addon automatically sets the From: address to what the To: was in the incoming mail. If I'm orginating an email the add-on enters the correct From: address to whatever I used to send to that domain before.
