Running Windows 11 - 22000.376

So I need to make my 1080p laptop screen the exact usable screen area of 1366x768 for a piece of software that I made for my old laptop.
Here are screenshots of running at 1366x768 and at 1920x1080:

1366 this is the 1366x768 image. Take a look at the amount of bookmarks on the bar.

1080p this is the 1080p image (150% scaling [ Windows recommened] ). Again, take a look at the amount of bookmarks on the bar. Theres less.

I need a way to make 1080p scaled to exactly or exteremely close to 1366x768. I've tried all the custom scaling options (ended up blurry) or running the display at 1366x768 (you can taste the pixels) but to no good solution.

Thanks in advance,
Lewis

Perhaps you could run a virtual machine in Hyper-V where the emulated screen size is 1366x768?

See screenshots to show principle. You would have to test it for visual impact.

1366x768 is nominally a 16:9 Ratio screen although it is slightly off spec, possibly to keep manufacturing cost down - using a 768 pixel height and keeping the square pixel shape the size required would be 1360 x768 but this would increase tooling and electronics costs

Detail is here ...

I recall actually using a 1360x768 on a laptop a good while ago so the panels were made but 1366x768 was used more often to keep costs down

Actually even 1360x768 is only an approximation to 16:9.

16:9 = 1.77778 (to 5 decimal places)
1360/768 = 1.77083 (to 5 decimal places)
1366/768 = 1.77865 (to 5 decimal places)

Thus 1366/768 is actually a closer approximation to 16:9 than 1360x768 albeit historically 1360/768 was more memory efficient in days when memory/screen technology was much more expensive.

The closest exact match of 16:9 would be 765*1360 but nobody has ever done this afaik - incidentally, you can set these in Hyper-V but would be pointless as inside eye perception range. In reality, the pixels are not a perfect square of course anyway.

Closest you can get with scaling is 140 or 141%
I've tried that but certain things in explorer are blurry. The time on the taskbar is blurry and so is the ribbon in the file explorer.

That's the best option at the moment until microsoft fixes the blurry text when scaling.

Thanks :)

Yeah, its a program that I made in 2018 that checks whether the display is 1366x768 and it will exit. It unlocks an external hard drive with a bunch of account logins etc.

Hi there

@lewise18

Why on earth would one write a program that only deals with fixed screen size. Surely in these days of modular / OO type of programming and with even easier "interpretive" facilities like python etc -- just use a standard API for screen handling and send data to it

e,g get_screen( ) which should return the screen area from hardware
format your data
send_screen().

I haven't done any proper programming since my "Fortran and PL/1" days a long time ago at Uni but surely there must be some easy way of getting screen size, formatting the data for it and sending data back to screen. Shouldn't be complex IMO. Perhaps some "Pro's" out there could convince me otherwise but I've always found in Engineering / even home D.I.Y projects always break the thing down into simple tasks and where possible re-use those tasks (as per OO).

Cheers
jimbo
