Make Onedrive sync witha folder other than the pre-set ones

Hi There

I'm wanting to add a folder to OneDrive that is located on a different drive than my OS. I've looked through various tutorials, but they only tell me how to stop or start syncing on folders that OneDrive already has added by default.

Is there a way to add a completely new folder without moving it?

Unlike other cloud providers such as GoogleDrive, Onedrive does not offer selective sync directly. As a workaround you can use junction points.

The OneDrive folder can be on any drive/partition, it doesn't need to be on C:

I never keep my OneDrive folder on my C drive. Just unlink your current setup, then set it up new and it will ask where you want to create it.

Note: the REASON i don't keep OneDrive on C is because of what "can" happen with a possible system restore. Let's say you take an image of your computer on Monday. Througout the week, let's say you create and sort and organize a bunch of data within OneDrive.

So, on Friday, you now have all of your new stuff on your PC, and you have it synced to your OneDrive in the cloud. All is well.

Let's say on Saturday your system flakes out and you end up having to resort to restoring your image backup from Monday. Well, obviously the files in your local onedrive that you created, sorted and organized will now be gone. But not to worry, they are in the cloud right and will sync right back??? Well, you would think so. But what actually happens is that once you restore your PC, your Onedrive client "thinks", that you have now deleted the files from OneDrive on the local computer and it will ALSO delete those files now from the cloud. Good news is that they go to a Recycle Bin in the cloud....so all is not lost.....but you would HAVE to catch this soon enough after it happens before your Recycle bin in the cloud is wiped out.

For this reason, I keep my OneDrive stuff on a drive that I won't restore with a system image.

Guys, I think you may have read the thread wrong. The OP wants to sync a folder located on a secondary drive to onedrive, not change the location of his onedrive folder.

Thanks for your replies everyone @glasskuter was correct I'm wanting to add a folder on another drive. Looks like using a junction would have been my best solution. In the end i decided on a Dropbox subscription instead, this seems to be what I needed.
