  Description:
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0xC1800109: 2025-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5063878) (26100.4946).

I updated the BIOS to 3801. Afterwards, on startup Windows now shows it has the wrong username or pw, and two of my full name (only one before the BIOS update). Choosing either one, using a PIN, I end up with the desktop below, with all program icons in black. What now?

I found a YT video that suggested a couple of fixes, the second having a DISM command sequence ending with /RestoreHealth. Didn't fix it (rebooted).

I tried an in-place repair install and in the end it failed, per the screenshot. Now what?

Consider a clean uninstall unless there is a members in the other thread has a fix for the pin / user id / update problems.

If memory integrity problems reoccur they can be troubleshooted.

Clean uninstall, as in going back to 10? It’s on my mind. Better to go back to Win 10, and possibly figure out a better way to 11, if possible. I definitely want to avoid a clean install of 11, as I have a few things that could be recreated. Right now, I’m restoring a system image of 11 from Tuesday. Will see how that goes. Maybe it will even be a better candidate for an in-place repair.

What I’m not understanding is if the BIOS update played a role in this fiasco. The timing suggests it did, but someone with more knowledge would have to explain how.

Pin / user id / update problems with 0xC1800109
and 0x8007042b - 0x2000d, failure to run V2 are the problems.

None that I'm aware of.

It takes time to collect logs.

It takes a lot more time to troubleshoot them.

And there is still no V2 so it's unknown if there will be another script that fails to run.

The repair via the last system image got the same black icons. If the updating of the BIOS is somehow involved, then going back to Win 10 may not get rid of them.
