Memory Integrity prevents PC from booting

Hi All,

I've tried to enable Memory Integrity on my laptop but when I reboot for the changes to take effect, my PC hangs on the ROG boot screen with no circular loading icon. The only way out is to hold my power button and boot again. Mem Integrity is of course disabled after doing this.

So far, I've tried disabling non windows processes and all startup programs. My device manager doesn't flag any defective drivers nor does Windows Security suggest any incompatibilities. The option isn't available in safe mode so beyond that I'm not sure where to begin. I've also noticed that Local Security Authority Protection is turned off even though the tick box always shows that it's on.

I'm on an ASUS ROG Strix G15 (G512LW), Windows 11 Pro 22H2
Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

why in the world would you want to turn on memory integrity? all I've seen it do is cause havoc and slowdown

I've tried to enable Memory Integrity
Is this because Windows is prompting you to turn it on? If so then ignore it and, as @Spartan suggests leave it switched off. I know it is another level of security but if it is incompatible with your setup and you have other security installed it sounds more trouble than it's worth. I don't know how to stop Windows prompting you though so it might become frustrating seeing the prompt all the time. Maybe research on how to stop the prompt?

It is enabled on my machine and causes no trouble (up to now) but I believe it does cause issues such as you are getting. Sorry can't help more than that.

There are many threads about this but I've seen no solutions. My laptop has the same issue and won't boot when I turn memory integrity on, though does after a reboot. The warning then reappears.

There are solutions to the memory integrity issues, but some systems as supplied by the vendor may not be compatible for various reasons.

The OS, device drivers & hardware (the firmware, including the BIOS) have to be able to support memory run in a protected, virtualised space.
The most common causes of the failure to enable memory integrity are anti virus, anti cheat software, incompatible drivers, incompatible firmware.

Try to disable and if possible remove from the system any 3rd party software and drivers, unplug all non essential hardware.
Autoruns from Sysinternals is ideal for disabling drivers/ services as well as Driver Store Explorer for removing drivers.

A simple and convenient method to see if your system is compatible with memory integrity is to create an image of the system then wipe the disk and clean install Windows, let it update fully, do not install any 3rd party software or drivers (unless there is a specific vendor driver that is essential) and check the setting can be applied, if not then a part of the base system is incompatible and would need vendor support.

Where do you access that log? When I look at the setting in the Windows Security menu it says nothing about incompatible drivers

You need to have virtualisation turned on in the BIOS or you won't be able to enable Memory Integrity.

And your drivers have to be updated to be compatible.
