Meta could be analyzing and retaining your phone's photos without your explicit consent.

Some Facebook users have noticed that, deep within their app settings, Meta has switched on two toggles that allow it to access their camera roll to offer AI-powered suggestions, including "personalized creative ideas, like travel highlights and collages."

The problem? The toggles for the AI suggestion features, called "camera roll sharing suggestions," appear to be turned on for users who claim they haven't seen a pop-up from Facebook asking for permission to enable them. If you get that "cloud processing" pop-up and tap "Allow" on it, you'll agree to Meta's AI Terms of Service and permit your "media and facial features" to be analyzed by AI.

All meta apps scan and use all sorts of data from your phone. Contacts, text, images. That's the reason I will never use a social media app. Strictly browser access.

Does this only apply to the FB app on your phone or tablet? What about Messenger app?

Another reason, I have 2x phones, 2nd phone is for FB/Media.

It's one and the same.
It's social network, what did you expect they did with your data?
They use it to their liking and since no one reads the agreements...

BTW, this setting has been there for a while so it's really not new.
Headline using 'secretly' when it's a setting option and 'deep within their app setting'.

I removed anything Facebook from all my mobile devices. I only access FB via my PC. Hopefully that is enough to slow them down.

No difference, a device is a device.
You are more 'secure' on your phone as the OS is locked down.
The second you are open to the world thru a port, you are vulnerable.
The only non-option is to disconnect.
So is the internet.

I’m aware of that thanks. It was a rhetorical question hoping for a response that would help the less techie folks who come here for help.
What little soc media in which I participate is ONLY via browser.

Here are some of the worst apps.


Unforunately these companies add crap to diminish the browser experience on mobile for the purpose of getting you to use their app.

I use a user-agent switcher extension on mobile with an uncommon user agent (so they stop spamming me to use their app) and I use the webapp in desktop mode to get the regualr experience you would get from a computer

I'm not worried about META. It's the disgruntled, incompetent clowns at NSA who should be paying attention to our enemies instead..

Luckily, I am not one who is glued to her phone. Never have been. I use it for talk and text only. That's it. Yeah I know I'm old-fashioned. I consider it rude to be piddling with a cell phone in social situations and actually still converse at mealtime..

On my phone I have no shopping apps, social media, no email, silly little game apps or payment apps. I can't even remember the last time I accessed a web browser from my phone. I do my computing at home. My phone usage has nothing to do with any paranoia about spying or sharing my data. That's a given in today's world. It's gonna happen if one is on the web, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I just don't like my world revolving around a cell phone and feel better off for it..
I don't do social media of any kind on any of my other devices, either. If my business can't be handled through a browser, it doesn't get handled because I use no site specific apps. Cookies and cache are deleted after every browsing session.
