Microsoft Account conflicts

You do not need a windows key. In your case, it is a new laptop so the installation process reads the oem key stored in UEFI and installs the appropriate version of Windows.
Another option to clean install is reset and remove everything. In your case, I believe it is the better option. It starts you over from square one. Asus had a really good tutorial about that.

Hi glasskuter
thanks again for getting back. I reckon you're right ie "a clean slate" I'm gonna have one last crack using Spunk's advice (above). If I can't get things back working properly today - I'll do a clean install tonight as per your advice above. We've spent way too long on this Microsoft issue!

Sorry, but that is incorrect. First of all you can not move files from one account to the other. Second of all, even if you could, it would get you in a world of hurt with permissions.
When getting files from one account to another they first have to be copied to external media.
Yep- tried this & got "you do not have Administrator permissions" or something similar. but aren't I correct in saying that if this is where OneDrive is pointing atm ie C:\Users\Gordon\OneDrive, then these folders/files should be the ones synching to/from my OneDrive Cloud account OneDrive.live.com?

I was speaking of browsing to C:\Users\Gordon or C:\Users\Gebau and not the OneDrive folders there.

It looks like the Gordon Profile is a Microsoft Account and is linked to OneDrive
When you login to OneDrive.Live.com is there a profile for Gebau?
If not, then the Gebau profile is a local account and is not associated with OneDrive. Any files saved to this profile will not be synced to OneDrive.

If you want to save files form OneDrive, you can move the Files to the C:\Users\Public folder. Then Move them from Public to Gebau.

Howdy
after multiple attempts and multiple error messages with Microsoft Account & OneDrive synching, I bit the bullet and just completed a clean install as you suggested using Microsoft Account login details. Its all looking good so far! Just need to re-install a dozen progs inc printer software etc. So many thanks to you glasskuter & Spunk & others for you help & advice.

One last question - can I have 2 accounts running with different logins ie a local account as well as the Microsoft Account? or would this casue conflicts again? Not sure why I'd need but.......

And one more sorry
glasskuter mentioned Bitlocker in previous post? I've re-installed Windows 11 Home on the laptop so my understanding is that I don't have access to Bitlocker encryption & therefore don't have to note down encryption keys or turn it off? Is that correct?

Yes, you can have multiple user accounts. However, If you add a second MS account it would have it's own Onedrive account. Likewise, if your second account is a local account you can not sync it to the gebaus Onedrive account. That would be a conflict. Only your main user account(gebaus@xxxx) will be synced to your existing onedrive account.
If you are going to add another account strictly for emergency access to your computer, I suggest you make it a local account. In an emergency Onedrive on the web can be used to access your files stored in onedrive.

I mentioned bitlocker because OEMs now enable Bitlocker automatic device encryption by default on new laptops equipped with modern standby. Only Windows 11 Pro machines have standard Bitlocker. The 2 tutorials I referenced explains the difference in the two. Bitlocker and device encryption keys can always be found in your MS account online.
