Microsoft could be bringing ads to the Windows 11 File Explorer

Some Windows Insiders have reported seeing ads in the Windows 11 File Explorer, particularly in build 22572, which was released last week.

That would be a very bad move. Essential/ core apps should be left out from such practices or their costs should be included with the price of the main product - Windows.

If file explorer had adverts I'd imagine there's a lot of decent 3rd party file browsers around. The trouble with the current file explorer it's deeply integrated into the OS kernel and also hooks into Internet Explorer which Ms still hasn't been able to remove from the OS even though hardly anybody even THINKS of using it.

Actually having too many ads works against the advertisers since people just get used to totally ignoring them anyway.

What I would love to do is to put a permanent block on all websites that start with sound playing by default. OK for say Netflix / other multi-media sites as you know what you are logging on to -- but if you are browsing in a quiet place you don't want load raucous loud rap music suddenly emanating from your PC - imagine if you were doing research in say Oxford University's world renowned Bodleian Library. A sure way to get your reading privileges and access rights permanently terminated. !!!!

That'd be the worst thing Microsoft to ever do, they could've picked a different alternative like Microsoft Store, which is in my opinion a lot better instead.
 
Is the issue ads or suggestions? I'm sure that there would have to be a way to turn these off via the privacy options in settings. Business users would demand that, and they are the ones where MS gets its income.
