Solved Microsoft Office Professional 2019 - Do I need to be signed-in?


Thanks. The following rings bells for when I set up Windows 10 originally. It refers to a password, which sounds correct. Unfortunately it states "The user name must be different than any others on the device.". If 'user name' is referring to my profile name on my computer then changing to a local account means choosing a new profile name, which I do not want to do. Have I understood this correctly?
I want to keep my existing profile name.

I think you should ask Brink by posting in that tutorial thread.

It's possible to change the profile path later on but I had always thought that the tutorial let you just 'convert' an existing user account with its existing profile path. I had not spotted the significance of the para you are referring to [Step 6].

Thanks for the 'ask Brink' suggestion. I think the yellow box text under step 6 in Brink's tutorial is quite clear that a new 'Local account' profile would be created and I'm guessing that the process would not delete my current 'signed-in' profile. This means I could use either profile on my PC but to no real benefit so I'll stay as-is. I was hoping to simply convert my existing profile from 'Signed-in' to 'Local'.

I have been operating without problems so I'll leave well-alone. Not worth the hassle for a whim. At least I can easily download apps from MS Store when signed-in. Not as easy with a Local account.

I'll call this 'Solved' albeit unsatisfactorily. :-)

I think you are doing sterling work in trying to get the account conversion confusion resolved. I, for one, had never before realised that I had never understood the procedure properly.
No action yet but after the confusion with Brink is resolved, take a look at Bree's post about PINs & switching back & forth.

Brink has now clarified his responses to you. He said Yes to all these questions.

Yes, I have just been reading your new posts there.
I haven't experimented yet because my Windows 11 computer is having a lie in.
I won't nag you about making sure you've written your new password down somewhere secure yet accessible. Or about making a new system image.

And I signed out of my MSOffice 2021 months ago and have never noticed any side effects.

Denis - The process was a simple switch. It did not ask me enter a new username and new password. I only had to complete tutorial steps 1, 2 and 3. Job done.
Yes, I have got my original username and PW written down.
I created a system image after switching to local account.

Yeah switching to local account is easier than falling off a log you loose nothing except auto logged into ms apps.
